Star Trek: Starbase 777

Vara'l accompanied the Lieutenant into the quarters area, a weather eye kept on the other as he watched for any sign of their condition worsening. "It would appear we're imminently about to arrive." Vara'l observed after a moment.

Enter the quarters area, Lama looked around to see if there was any suspicious activity. Nothing out of the ordinary at first glance, but the weird vibes were still there. "Yeah umm... I guess... See if there's anyone we can talk to?" Lama suggested, thinking they weren't going to get very far just watching a corridor for something to happen. It seemed like it was business as usual, but of course he knew better than to trust his first impressions. Funnily enough, Lama and Vara'l was technically former coworkers too, under the Tal Shiar and the Free State, funny how that happened.

"Agreed." Vara'l responded simply in the face of their suggestion as he started to look around for someone to well.. talk to. At least someone who happened to look like they wanted to chat. The Romulan, as they did this, continued to remain in ignorance of the fact they happened to have once technically been co workers under a group and..nation he would have at points, dearly preferred to forget everything about

They could hear the sounds of hushed voices. "...Still think this was a mistake."

He shrugged. "I mean, if the Captain wants to let random people aboard..."

"Well, they're not random exactly, they're starfish."

"What? Starfleet, you idiot." Then he glanced down the corridor toward Lama and Vara'l and went silent.

Starfleet yet Lama and Vara'l were both Romulan, fresh out of the Republic no less. Anyway, Lama stared at the two Klingons for a few seconds before realising-- oh right, he had to be cool and tough, any signs of weakness would be immediately sensed. "Jolan tru my dudes-- gender neutral," Lama waved to the two of them, hoping to strike up a conversation. "It is us, the starfish."

"Jolan tru." Vara'l moved to stand alongside the other Romulan as he watched and waved slightly as well. His posture and stance carefully curated so as to avoid anything that might have been miss construed as being indicative of weakness. As they stood there, Vara'l calmly observed the duo with calm storm grey eyes,alert for any signs of foul play.

His brow furrowed. This person was now calling themself starfish. Was that really the right word somehow? No, of course it wasn't. This guy was just fucking with them. "Joe land true or whatever to you too."

"Oh, come on, you weren't even trying that time."

"I'm a KDF officer. Why would I need to know Romulan?"

"We could start with you understanding any other language."

"Are you calling me whatever the opposite of well-spoken is?"

"I think you've made it obvious."

"Pretentious bastard." Surprisingly, he left it at that, not challenging Reini to a duel for his honour or something like that. Instead, he turned his cold, sharp gaze toward Lama and Vara'l. "You lot! What do you want with us?"

Don't laugh don't laugh, Lama kept saying to himself, but alas the Betazoid-Romulan detective had to chuckle a little outloud at the exchange. He didn't mind that they butchered his language, he didn't sound any better in Klingon. Unsurprisingly, Lama was very monolingual. He knew some Betazoid, but when he only spoke to his family members telepathically in Rihannsu there was little need for it. "We were just passing by. You know, checking in to see how everything is going. How are you guys? OH! We're from Starbase 777. I'm Lama tr'Ehweia, half Betazoid by the way if you couldn't tell by my sexy eyes," Lama fluttered his long eyelashes. Despite looking 'serious' in the corridor, Lama's personality was starting to come back and he was on his silliness once again. "And this is..." He gestured to Vara'l to introduce himself.

Lisa, of course, had been with Lama and Vara’l. She just hadn’t said anything so far. But of course, she wanted to wait for Vara’l to introduce himself.

"I'm Vara'l tr'Hara" Vara'l said on cue as the other proceeded to gesture that he should introduce himself. The simple introduction made by the Liberated Borg Romulan as he continued to watch the klingon duo with his own in some ways cold steel grey eyes. Eyes that concealed a certain degree of suspicion at present having noted the distinctly unklingon like behaviour from the duo, after all, those final comments were enough to justify one should the second of the duo have been so minded. The fact they hadn't done that and had simply turned to stare at them suggested that either.. one had already defeated the other in a duel previously or some other reason was extant here that prevented them from dueling or even engaging in further verbal sparring. Vara'l rather wanted to know what the reason was, though he knew better than to ask. Having heard the arrival of the security lieutenant, Vara'l turned slightly as he stepped to one side in what hopefully was a move that provided the other Lieutenant with an opening in which they could introduce themselves. Lama shot Vara'l a set of finger guns and a cheeky wink before looking at Lisa, expected her to do her introduction next to these nice Klingon officers.

As Vara'l waited for the Lieutenant to introduce herself, he allowed himself to begin to sweep his surroundings with a careful gaze as he attempted to determine if anything else happened to seem..wrong. While he did this, Vara'l made sure to keep his hands close to but not touching his tricorder and his phaser as he waited for the others introduction in careful silence and effected a look of calm. Officially he was here as part of a 'wellness check' and that's what Vara'l intended to look like he was conducting duties in relation to.

After Lisa introduced herself in a brief section of footage from the 777 TV show lost due file corruption, GG grunted. "Alright. You've checked us. We're well. Move on down the corridor." (edited)

“Are you sure? Because we heard some odd things earlier from your Captain, she wasn’t acting like herself. Did you hear anything about a communications breakdown aboard your ship today?” Lisa thought, if people onboard didn’t know about the comms thing, then Tewari might have been lying. Which, again, didn’t seem like something her old Captain would do, but they were past that now. Lisa needed to figure out what was happening.

Vara'l idly noted the tone of the klingon and the fact that once again they happened to not really have acted that klingon-y. "We're just looking at this from the wellness side of things mind, we want to be sure that all is well, we're from an allied power, if there's something up we're here to help" He informed the officer.

"Oh, a comms issue? Never heard -"

He subtly stepped on Rei's foot.

He winced. "- Ah, yes, that comms issue. I've heard of this." He obviously had not heard of it. "That's hardly unexpected. Glitches and mistakes happen all the time."

"Yeah, if Starfleet ships helped one another out with every little problem like it was a big deal, they'd be in a state of constant crisis. That seems like something to go to therapy for."

Oh, this, this was definitely suspicious. Lisa had noticed Ahex stepping on Reini’s foot, and the change of story. Lisa knew now, these people were lying. She shot a look at Vara’l and Lama like ‘these people are lying for sure’ and went back to her calm and neutral facade. “It didn’t seem like a glitch to me. It was almost like your Captain was deliberately not answering comms. Would you know anything about that? It doesn’t exactly seem like a ‘little problem’ to me.”

"I hope your foot is okay and...." Vara'l idly commented then in addition to what had been said before "And well.. adding to that.." He trailed off a second as he continued to make sure his tone was level and calm and watched the duo carefully. "Surely you'd agree that it would behove us as your allies to take a distress call issued by an allied ship, especially one linked to such a serious failure in a communication system very seriously and that it'd only be right for us to conduct a wellness check with due mind to the fact there's been a distress call however accidental the initiating of it was." A slightly raised eyebrow what followed this, Vara'l having honestly not believed a word of what they'd said and having also honestly expected a klingon to have a better insult game. He raised an eyebrow. "Damn, wild. I suppose that is a theory you could have. One which you have no concrete evidence for and means nothing, so good luck with that."

"Sure, conduct your wellness check. Go on, do it. There's plenty of places you can go check if things are well that aren't isolated corridors with people you're asking suspicious questions to." His hand was on his weapon. So was GG's. It was apparent they were telling both of them to piss off or else. Courteous of them to give a warning, though.

[Comms] "Alright everyone let's regroup in the corridor near the transporter room." Sadhbh ordered over comms.

Vara'l raised an eyebrow in the face of the responses and the manner in which they were couched, especially when they happened to have come from people who were supposed to be from an allied power. Conscious that the others happened to look fairly serious and having already updated his mental designation of the two from members of an allied power to potentially hostile, Vara'l smoothly moved slightly further away to open space to safely draw his weapon if needed. As he did so he kept his gaze fixed on them. While he did initially move to speak further, the Commanders order proceeded to cut him off as he smoothly switched to work mode, his eyes fixed on the duo ready to draw at the first sign of either of them making to do so. "You heard the commander everyone, lets let these two fine allied officers go about their duties and regroup with the commander." he ordered smoothly and calmly as he started to back off as he complied with the Commanders orders..

Lisa nodded to Vara’l, grateful for the excuse to leave. She had seen Reini’s hand on his weapon and was going to nope out of the situation pretty soon anyhow. Lisa was quite averse to being shot, it wasn’t a fun time. Lisa also backed off with Vara’l, ready to regroup with the others.
