What was supposed to be a chill, normal day, had turned into a full on field trip. Edgar rushed to finish reconfiguring a replicator’s temperature modifiers, fingers flying as sparks fizzled from the tool in his hands. He nearly whacked his forehead with the speed at which he sat up, squeezing out from under the panel and getting to his feet to report.

Lt. Cdr. Alizati tr'Kota | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 03:11 PM
Arriving on the Eventide, Alizati went straight for engineering. He looked as he did every day, Alizati was not the type of guy who liked to change his look often. The most he did was get his hair trimmed or get new shoes when his old ones wore out.

Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 03:23 PM
Maya, for the most part, had been close to the warp core's console as she monitored its condition. Well that and slightly raising the temp on Lawson's quarters. She glanced back for a bit as she heard someone stepped in and smiled warmly. "Commander." Maya formally greeted as she approached Alizati and handed him a PADD. "Warp core and all subsystems stable, sir." She said plainly before she raised an eyebrow when she noticed something different. "New haircut! Looks good on you." (edited)

Klaa whistled as she walked into engineering. “So this is the infamous Eventide! What a beauty!” She stated. She began her self tour to admire every detail.

Ens. Dezyim 5 | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 03:33 PM
After the scramble to get the rescue team together on 777, engineering on the Eventide seemed almost peaceful to Dezyim. Or maybe he was just better accustomed to the commotion. Either way, he was ready for the mission. He had finally fallen back into the routine comfort of the job, and was feeling especially confident today. He manned his post, casually trying to pretend he wasn’t keeping up with Alizati and Maya’s conversation.

Sensors in the engineering bay detected a spike in stellar radiation.

"The most beautiful thing in this side of the quadrant indeed. Powered with a Rigel X04 matter-anti--" Maya responded to Klaa with a thumbs up before she was interrupted by the sensors, which blared an alert on heightened stellar radiation. "Sensor's detect spikes in stellar radiation. Tour time's over, get to your station. Same goes with you too, Castelo." Maya stated before she quickly hopped back to her post and prepared the precautionary measures for radiation. (edited)

“Yes, sir!” He called back, brushing the ever-present dust off of himself before making his way to his little area. If anything broke, he was on call and ready to get in there. ”If”, as if nothing ever broke. Something would always go at least a little bit wrong when it came to tech.

Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 04:25 PM
"Standard procedure. Increase shield power input to compensate for the radiation. Prioritize the areas of Eventide facing the star." Maya calmly ordered as she worked on that from her end. It was a start on protecting the Eventide from the radiation until further orders from the bridge. She wondered how things are going up there...

He placed his fingertips on the console, watching the others work away at the shields before realizing he should probably be doing the same. The fact that they were facing a star freaked him out. Absolutely terrifying, to be staring straight at a big flamey gas ball of death and doom.

Was it getting hot in here?

"..." Fuck, it may be getting hot in here. And it's not the fun kind of hot!! *"Computer, display status of Eventide climate controls. Lower Main Engineering air conditioning temperature by 10 Degrees C" *Maya inquired as she continued to work, keeping a close eye on climate controls. Which are, in her words, the second most sensitive system on any given starship.

Ens. Klaa N’garen | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 04:38 PM
She wiped the sweet from her brow. "Is it me or is it getting hot as hell in here?" She asked.
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 04:39 PM
“Oh, good. It’s usually chilly in here.” He joked, voice barely a mutter as he tapped furiously at the shields controls, “Let’s hope they don’t cook us too quick.”

Narrator BOT 14-Mar-26 04:40 PM
Interior temperature was lowered by 10 °C. External temperature, though? Hoo boy.
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 04:44 PM
"Hoookayy that looks bad.... Eventide's not built for that shit." Maya exclaimed as she inquired on how much longer the Eventide can stay this close at this state. She also bumped Lawson's room up another 5 °C "We may need to alert the bridge on this. We can't stay here for long."
Avatar
Narrator BOT 14-Mar-26 04:49 PM
With manual input on shield modulation, Eventide would hopefully be able to stay put until backup from the Heliosphere arrived. However, the station didn’t have that long.

Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 04:50 PM
“Okay. Uh… y’know what, we can work with this.” He exhaled through his teeth, before whispering under his breath, “Not worse than a Florida summer, not worse than a Florida summer…”

Ens. Dezyim 5 | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 04:56 PM
Dezyim pulled at his collar with one hand before returning it back to the screen he was working at, imputing data at an increased pace. If he worked faster, surely the Eventide would start to cool down. Or he’d stop focusing on it. Something, at least. He was getting more purple as he got flushed. “Why are our uniforms so many layers…”
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 04:57 PM
"Wait till you see Filipino summer... Definitely hot girl summer." Maya casually shrugged as she unzipped her uniform. Dezyim was right, why did they have to wear so many layers?? "Alright. We may have to work on shield modulation manually to keep up with the radiation... should give us more time at least."
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 04:59 PM
He nodded at Dezyim’s statement, the urge to take off his jacket seemingly shared among his fellow crewmates. He unzipped his as well, keeping it on despite the allure of not having sleeves. “Gotcha.” He hummed, switching gears to do as he was told.

Manual input for shield modulation was…quite the ordeal. It was rather tedious, that was for sure, but at the end of the day, it seemed to be one of the only routes toward keeping Eventide safe.

Ens. Klaa N’garen | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 05:05 PM
"Nothing like a little heat to motivate one." She joked, taking her outer jacket off and tying it around her wast. Cracking her knuckles over her head. "Let's get cracking."
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 05:28 PM
“Jeez… yeah, definitely motivational.” He chuckled, taking his jacket fully off after one minute too many of being way too warm.

"What has happened?" A Klingon walked into the room, a warrior still in his youth and prime. His skin was a deep, rich brown, his hair flowing and wild. He spoke in a deep, authoritative voice.
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 05:59 PM
“Shit’s going a little crazy.” Edgar cringed, “We’re trying to get shield modulation in, but we have to do it manually, and the closer to the sun we get, the more we get absolutely cooked.”
Avatar
Sogh Morof | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 06:01 PM
"Perhaps I may help," he said and moved to aid them. He would attempt to modulate the shields. He tapped away, trying to work the console and bind it to his will. "What is causing these malfunctions?"

The main engineering console alighted with a hailing signal from the USS Fort Lauderdale’s engineering bay.
Avatar
Ens. Dezyim 5 | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 06:41 PM
Dezyim shifted his attention to the console, pausing his shield modulating. “It’s the Fort Lauderdale; their engineering bay. I’ll put them through.” He reached over and responded to the hail. Hopefully they’d had a better idea on how to deal with the radiation.

Lauderdale’s ACEO, a Betazoid, appeared on the screen,Eventide? How are you all holding up?”
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 06:44 PM
“It’s heating up a little, but we’re getting the hang of shields,” He said, looking to the others for their additions.
Avatar
Narrator BOT 14-Mar-26 06:48 PM
“We may have a way to compensate for the heat, but it’s a temporary fix. We don’t want you blowing out your shield modulators,” The ACEO looked a little surprised that she put that out there until she continued, “Rerouting the cooling from your weapons systems into your shields should handle some of it, but you’d need Tactical clearance. Lauderdale is holding up with this method, but like I said, temporary. We’re keeping a close eye on it so we don’t blow a gasket.”
Avatar
Sogh Morof | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 06:48 PM
Morof wouldn't speak, instead he was focused on getting the shields modulated. Quietly he tapped away and rumbled softly as he fought to manually set them.

Ens. Dezyim 5 | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 07:03 PM
“That’s genius, I’ll get tactical on that right away. Thanks for letting us know,” he responded to the Lauderdale’s ACEO. He tapped his combadge to call the bridge.
Avatar
Sogh Morof | ENG BOT 14-Mar-26 07:25 PM
"Moving cooling from weapons would work, but we need a more permanent fix," he said with a sigh and tried to think of a better solution.
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:05 PM
“Right now, we have to make sure we don’t get fried long enough to put in a proper repair. We gotta reroute the cooling.” He replied, “Personally, I’d rather not be crispy,”
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:06 PM
"Let's transfer half of auxiliary reserve power to the shields and cooling systems as well just for an added boost. That should keep our end frosty." Maya said as she continued to monitor the status of the ships systems and temperature. "We'll Initiate transfer after I bug the bridge to greenlight us ahead."
Avatar
Sogh Morof | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:28 PM
Morof grunted and wiped sweat from his ridged forehead. He was rather toasty and his fur jacket was beginning to become uncomfortable. "I worry that we may get surprised by enemies," said the Klingon warrior. It was in his nature to watch for enemies and expect an attack from anywhere.

Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:30 PM
"Our only enemy's the sun at the moment." Maya calmly responded to Morof. "Right now, the battle is rescuing the crew of the station."
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:30 PM
“Fighting the sun… cool.” He whispered, mostly to himself as he continued to work, “Very cool. Or warm. Just… bad times altogether.”

"It's kinda hot actually." Maya very plainly and casually said. She had a smirk on her lip, she knew what she meant

"I understand that, but what if we transfer power from lesser needed systems to structural integrity systems? This would aid in keeping some of the heat out and then we could transfer some of the cooling back to the weapons without risk of burning out our shields?" (edited)
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:32 PM
“Oooh, good point. And we… y’know, don’t wanna get squished by the ship. Smart.” He nodded.
Avatar
Sogh Morof | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:34 PM
"We could shut down cargo holds that are empty and transfer the power from them towards structural systems," he says, showing a mock up of his plan on his console. "Then the shields won't have to work so hard, the cooling can be half diverted, and weapons can still be utilized."
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:37 PM
"Righto. Probably a good idea to shut off recreational areas as well for the time being. At least we won't need tactical permission for that since its directly on our control." Maya added, nodding in agreement with Morof. "Should give us a bit more juice."
Avatar
Sogh Morof | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:37 PM
"Replicators could also be turned off on most levels and that power diverted as well," he said with a shrug. (edited)

Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:41 PM
"Let's leave the one's in the Med and Shuttlebays on, we'll be expecting injuries." Maya added, much unfortunate news for the one Ed had been working on earlier, but probably for the best. Then she got the comms message from the bridge. "Alright, we have the greenlight to transfer cooling from weapons to shields and grab more power from reserve, we're good to go! Also! Who want's to head over to give the U.S.S Fort Lauderdale a hand? Captain's asking if we have any free volunteers."
Avatar
Ens. Edgar Castelo | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:42 PM
“I can head on over. Might as well take the free field trip.” He nodded, stepping back from his console and grabbing his jacket.
Avatar
Sogh Morof | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 04:42 PM
"I can head over as well," said the Klingon with a nod.
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Maya Umali | ENG BOT 15-Mar-26 05:15 PM
"Alright! We're heading over to Lauderdale! Standby for transport." Maya announced as the comms fromt the bridge patched through, while she also began the transfer of more cooling and power to the shields and cooling systems
