Space; the Final Frontier.... The stars zipped past as the Eventide moved through the Kassae sector at warp speed, on their way to Risa to meet the fleet they'd be assisting in escorting a handful of diplomats. There were quite a few ships going back and forth, as expected... but oddly enough, for about five minutes now, they were completely alone among the stars.

The young Command cadet, PADD clutched close to her chest as always, stood near the back of the bridge beside one of the turbolifts. Her wide eyes swam around the cockpit screen, watching the stars race by. There was a gnawing thought of ‘Where is everyone?’ in the back of her head, but for fear of jinxing herself and the ship, she didn’t say it out loud.

Ivi was seated at the medical console, double and triple-checking diagnostics and such out of pure habit. He'd gone through proper bridge training, but nothing quite shook that instinct. If all went well, his services wouldn't be needed. ...hm. "I haven't seen another ship in a while," rang out his TTTS. "I wonder if it's not a good day for traveling to Risa..?"

“Um…” So much for jinxing, “M-Maybe we’re just…ahead, or…something,” She offered, though with the way she spoke it didn’t sound like she had much confidence. She’d be pretty upset if for her first away mission, a diplomatic one even, that they were late.

At the helm, Sideon was almost too hyperfixed on his task to really take in how much he is happy to be here. When he found out he was assigned to the Eventide, he quite literally jumped in the air and fist pumped with glee, yet now he is here and on duty - he cant help but feel a little nervous regarding just how important his role is. He has flown starships before, but never for a full shift outside of training and sims. The experience stack needs to be built from somewhere! Hearing a familiar voice of Yali Uo, he did take a moment to turn and give a nod and smile of a greeting, before turning his focus right back to the console.

These are the voyages of the Starship Eventide... Jena approached the the Eventide's bridge with coffee and PADD on hand as she read through the mission brief with the sight of the other officers working made her smile softly as she took her place in the security console. For the most part, this shouldn't too different from the usual kind of missions the Eventide would be sent out for, but at the same time, practically anything could happen in the final frontier. For now, the Security Chief chose to simply just enjoy the calm before the storm rocks the boat.

Having his hands free for the time being, Syrax busied himself observing the map and re-reading the mission briefing, half-listening to the chatter on the bridge around him. "It's usually pretty busy, but weird days happen all the time," he offered upon hearing what sounded like the beginnings of concern amongst the group. Unusual indeed, but not completely unheard of.

Evoras was standing in silence at the science console looking outside the ship. All the standard checks had been run before and during take off and she never got tired of looking at space. She had not noticed the absence of ships until the others started talking about it, for all that she had spent many years on starships exclusively she was more used to less frequented routes. The others were right though, there should be more ships here. Out of habit more that true concern she checked the continuous measurements the systems on the starship made during flight for anything out of the ordinary.

Peaceful silence, as expected from the void, where no sound travels. Space in front of them stretched endlessly, then began to— shift, to warpblue, brilliant, blinding blue, stretching around and in front of Eventide like a spider's web, encasing her, scattering stars and particles into meaningless shapes and points of light. The scanners went haywire all at once, alerting to a major distortion in the space ahead.

"Tactical scanners are going haywire!" Vara'l declared as he tapped on the console and his gaze flicked up to the viewscreen. "Yellow Alert, raising shields!" The Romulan declared as his training kicked in, distortions as far as he happened to understand sciencey things that couldn't shot at, happened to sometimes have emissions you wanted to well...keep out. Getting shields raised seemed wise.

Lt. Cdr. Jenaha Sul | SEC BOT 16-May-25 05:25 PM
Although Jena didn't really bring it up, the fact that the Eventide quickly became the only ship in this area did certainly did ring some alarm bells as the others in the crew brought it up. Then came the sight of the distortion and its warping of the space ahead of them, surrounding the Eventide, which very much confirmed her fears of something wrong going on here. "Helm. Full stop. We don't want to get any closer to that if its the reason we're alone here..."
Avatar
Narrator BOT 16-May-25 05:30 PM
Eventide sputtered with the command, a brief whine of the yellow alert klaxson heard before coming to a stop. Shields flickered and died again. Slicing through the distortion ahead with a blade of light, a Prometheus-class ship barrelled straight for the Eventide with no sign of stopping. The comms station whistled with a hail from the ship ahead. You have seconds.

The Romulan checked his console as he attempted to make some sense of why the shields had failed as quickly as they had. Then came the COMM call from Engineering, he tapped his Comm badge. "Bridge, engineering, we've encountered a major distortion, ship approaching on a collision course." The Romulan rattled off in response to the communication from engineering.

Evoras was standing in silence at the science console looking outside the ship. All the standard checks had been run and she never got tired of looking at space, altho for some reason this particular view seemed like she had seen it before. Not in the generic way, that was fairly common considering she looked at space quite frequently, no she felt as though she had seen this exact view, wich was highly irrational. There were fewer ships than usual for such a busy route, perhaps that was why it felt familiar. Out of habit more that true concern she checked the continuous measurements the systems on the starship made during flight for anything out of the ordinary.

Protocol must be followed. Vara'l proceeded to check Tactical diagnostics as he attempted to see how the shields were holding up, if anything had affected them and also if weapons systems happened to be operable and alright. Whatever this was, he rather preferred himself not exploded by a torpedo negatively affected by a distortion. It sort of felt like that was all he happened to be able to do, without their knowing what exactly had locked them in place. Not unless they wanted to try and blow themselves sideways though it seemed like they'd not reached that point of desperation yet. Rather seemed like they needed more information right now.

Do or did your scans show something comparable or anything else out of the ordinary?" She was still looking at her console and had not looked up while speaking, but knowing whether the other ship was caught in similar conditions might make it easier to at least vaguely estimate how big the affected area was.

"Let's try to slow down the other ship, and dip under it!" He kind of done that before. Besides, if the man could drift a ship in space, he could get them out of this slippery situation as well, right? Well, try - it's the least he could do...

"Hm? Maybe we should send out a hailing frequency to any other ships near us? Just a status check." Jena suggested with a shrug, noticing the sense of discomfort from Iviaan and Syrax as she readied herself in the Security Console, but nothing much beyond that.

Blue lights...ship coming...right at us...shit shit shit... Yet again he has found himself in a situation he is unsure of the protocol, occam's razor can only be applied to liberally to explain what he was remembering and feeling. Unsure if its the right course of action, but driven by the gut feeling and past recounts of a fiery ball of impact based death, he had to do something. He, without orders, rapidly changes the course of the ship, commanding it to bank and roll away from its current heading at the earliest possible time, perhaps the promptness will change their fate this time around. Once he does so, he stands up and announces to the crew behind him why exactly he did so. Speaking between heavy panicked breaths. "Temporal anomaly! I don't know how many times but we are locked in a causality loop that ends with impact. You must believe me!" He he grips the sides of his head trying to rack his brain for more details. "We hail a ship with that frequency on a collision course with us that we fail to escape!...and have failed who knows how many times..."

"Lieutenant Ezra, please let Lieutenant tr'Morvar take the helm. You've done a lot to make sure we get out of this alive, and you should rest for a moment." That much was definitely an order from the ACMO, but Ezra was still welcome to hang out on the bridge and chip in. (edited)

Coming to terms that he might very well be comprised in his ability to do his duty, he reluctantly stands from his console. His hands shaking a little more than he wished showed, the mental stress combined with the temporal dissonance culminating in a rather uncomfortable expereince. "Yes, Lieutenant. Understood." He nodded towards tr'Morvar and stood aside, keeping himself close while he is able to give as much insight as he can.

"Nothing concrete as of yet. Do you have precises enough reading on the tachyon density to tell whether it is high enough to cause this on their own? Our scans are still in process." If the tachyons alone were to blame at least they would not have to look for and find measures against something that could be potentially much more complex. "If the tachyons alone are to blame we should disperse them as soon as possible, because the continuous looping is likely aggravating that issue."

"A causality loop is typically caused by the rupturing of a temporal distortion— our collision, in this instance. The distortion was likely agitated by the warp cores' destruction?" Pav-Ak ruffled his feathers, pacing back and forth. It was clearly difficult to disguise his inappropriately timed excitement. "I think that dispersing the tachyon particles would certainly help. Transferring information at the speed of light isn't helping us at this moment. If all else fails, we'll likely be stuck looping only once more, but — that carries more weight. One last shot."

With the realization nobody had responded yet,Vara'l tasked his console to run a simulation to determine if a torpedo detonated at the same time as the tractor beam was inverted may give them enough momentum to evade the ship as it rapidly approached. "If we can avoid impact we can attempt to render aid.." Vara'l offered then. "Or if we stop it entirely...perhaps things will be..better?"

Looks like a beam would work just fine — there definitely wasn't enough time to discuss data points, though, because the Enyalios had emerged from the anomaly and was On Her Way. Whatever they wanted to do had to be done NOW.

The Enyalios came closer, though there was no risk of crashing this time— she safely sped past the Eventide, narrowly scraping against one side with no serious damage. They passed each other as Eventide went into warp, successfully dispersing the tachyon particles. It was like a sigh of relief was heard all around... especially when another ship went by, and another, and another, the escape shuttles from Enyalios lingering close to Eventide. ... There was still no word from the transporter room.

Slowly but surely, there were some memories that started to mix around in her head from the previous few loops, and though the young Trill was sadly very used to her memories not actually lining up, she nevertheless felt a headache coming on. There’s a soft sob that escaped her as she sat there, scrunching her shoulders. Oh, wow…

"Steadiest hands on Beta Aquilae II's campus" - he remembered that sentence being thrown around quiet a bit in the pilot training section, back when he was just a cadet. And somehow, even now, Syrax managed to stay true to that, despite the time loop, the paradox, and the horrific implications of having "one last shot". Somehow, that lack of uncertainty and clear stakes... only made him more confident. More steady. Gently he urged Eventide to slow down until she stopped, the escape pods flocking to her like tiny larvae to a mother-fish; the Romulan sighed, letting his hands slide off of the console to rest at it's corners, a phantom memory of something like heat briefly licking his skin; he shrugged it off in favor of others, to whom the helmsman turned. Spotting the poor cadet, Syrax leaned towards her, murmuring a quiet but hopefully reassuring: "Hey-- you're okay. We did it. Do you need a moment? If you do, you or we can go take a walk in the ship's corridors. Sometimes it helps me become a little bit more grounded."

As the seconds and then minutes passed she felt herself grip the edge of the science console tighter, her body bracing for something that she did not quite remember and that, at least this time around, never came. She knew it was supposed to be there, but the more she tried to think about what had happened the more the details seemed to escape her grasp. Still she knew instantly when they did not explode or travel back in time. Returning her hands to her sides, she released a breath deliberately so slowly that it could not be recognised for what it was, a sigh of relief, then she brought up the data of the readings on the console again to check the tachyon particles in their surrounding for what would hopefully be the last time. The levels were still slightly above average, but no longer any where close to levels that may have posed any risk. She took another slow breath. Looking over the data would be fascinating. "I do believe giving everyone that is no longer actively needed a small break would be prudent."

Exhaled the breath he'd not realized he'd been holding and just continued to conduct his duties as the ACTO. "Jolan Tru..ah.." He paused a brief moment before he continued. "Welcome to the bridge."
