Things, as they tend to do, suddenly started to happen really, really fast - the anticipation of a bad thing happening, then the jolt, the red flash of a rabid body attacking his fellow scientist, and Saren wasn't thinking twice when he pointed a phaser directly at the Ferengi's back, and pressed the trigger - also set to stun, raising the probability of disarming the attacker.
The red-eyed one then was unceremoniously grabbed by the scruff of their neck and thrown off of Nalas, to whom Saren lowered himself closer, gently holding the flailing Bajoran by his shoulders and trying to look him in the eye:
"Nalas? Nalas, hey, look at me, deep, calm breaths, yeah?.. It's going to be alright."
And in somehow keeping him alive, he thought, assessing the puncture wound. Death was out of the question, though. Stubbornly and perhaps stupidly, but he believed in finding a way to fool her. First, though, they needed to ensure that Nalas didn't die of asphyxiation, first - and that, at least, was something the Medical would be able to assist with immediately.
