Lt. Zaru Teno | SCI BOT 30-Aug-24 07:15 PM
It had been a little while since Teno had assisted in a delicate away mission, specifically based on a starship. He'd been called to join the away team as support, just in case. He wasn't sure at this time if his specialty in plant science would be useful, but his general understanding of biology might prove helpful in a pinch. He settled into a station and made sure he'd read over the mission brief multiple times, waiting for the rest of the Science team to file in to the lab.

Lt. Rehszan | SCI BOT 30-Aug-24 07:27 PM
Rehszan was in a similar situation, unsure of how entomology specifically would be useful in this particular scenario. However, he knew plenty of other things! The hulking Gorn-droid ducked into the labs, taking a station. "Good day," he greeted politely. "Well— it could be better, I suppose, hm?"

Teno perked up when he heard the door to the labs open. He saw Lt. Rehszan come in and take a station. The Bajoran nodded to Rehszan and smiled warmly. "Hello, Lieutenant. I'm Lieutenant Zaru or you can call me Teno. It... yeah it could be a better day but... hopefully we can help?" He sort of stated and asked at the same time. He sounded a little unsure, but ultimately like he wanted to be of use.

"Oh, yes!" Rehszan flashed as best of a reassuring smile as he could, given the whole reptilian mouth full of sharp-ass teeth situation. "We will do our best to help. My name is Rehszan, it is a pleasure to meet you, Teno."

Teno nodded, not entirely afraid of Rehszan's teeth, somehow. He thought they were cool, and he also knew Rehszan would not bite him. So, it was fine. "Yes, of course. It is a pleasure to meet you too. I am excited to work with you."

Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 30-Aug-24 07:44 PM
This would be the very first time Paco would have stepped foot into the U.S.S. Eventide. Actually, this is the first time Paco would actually be working in an actual starship for real that isn't a training simulation from the academy. He had been waiting for this opportunity for quite some time. Being an Anthropologist, he wasn't sure how helpful he could be, but he felt his general understanding of technology and previous experiences in the station could be useful for the science team. "Hallo peeps!"

Lt. One of One | SCI BOT 30-Aug-24 07:47 PM
It was the first time One was officially on a mission; there weren't usually very many things for an anthropologist to do on missions, and Lieutenant tr'Lareth-Morvar was more experienced with the crew, and generally more useful. However, he was unavailable at the moment, and also, this involved people, so they were here, hoping to help out where they could. Upon entering the labs, they nodded at everyone, immediately weirdly aware of the fact that they were currently in charge... and sat themselves down behind a console, facing the group in case anyone needed them. Why were they so awkward... it was really not proving useful.

Teno waved to Paco and smiled, and nodded as Lt. One of One also joined the Lab. "Hello Lieutenants." He said with a slight bow. Teno recognized Lt. One as the Assistant Chief Science Officer and looked to them for guidance. "Um, Lieutenant, is there anything you want us to be doing to prepare for this mission right now? I've checked the briefing already, it seems there is a powerful storm headed for Helios III. I'm ready to monitor..." He trailed off, realizing he wasn't giving the Lieutenant time to speak and ran a hand through his hair awkwardly.

Oh, One guessed it was actually leadership time. "Try scanning for the storm. Do we have any physicists with us? Our job is to find a safe window for evacuation, ask the computer for assistance in predicting one if necessary." One may have had an absolutely useless specialisation for analysing storms, but they knew how to use the computer to fill in their weaknesses.

Lt. Zaru Teno | SCI BOT 30-Aug-24 08:51 PM
"Yes, of course, Lieutenant." Teno said with a nod, and he turned to his station to start monitoring the storm. Who knew what he would find? As he navigated the computer controls, he chuckled nervously. "...I'm a Botanist." He smiled awkwardly at One and shrugged ever so slightly.

Lt. JG. Paco Umali | SCI BOT 30-Aug-24 08:52 PM
Paco was full vibes as he replicated himself a bottle of water and continued to monitor the status of the storm, smiling back to Teno as he looked around to seeing the other scientists. "I'm an Anthropologist. We all studied physics though, so we should be fine."

Lt. Zaru Teno | SCI BOT 30-Aug-24 10:09 PM
"Oh, yeah, that's true." Teno said as he continued monitoring the storm from his station. "We can do this!" He said, a bit more confidently.

Teno looked curiously at the images on his screen of the swirling storm on the planet below them. His eyes widened and he gasped quietly. It was a very, very large storm. He began a scan of the storm, looking for any anomalies or readings that would cause a communications blackout between the planet and the ship.

Lt. Cdr. Lilian So | SCI BOT 30-Aug-24 10:53 PM
Lilian found herself waiting in the science labs, not sure what she might need to work on based on the planet below but wanting to be ready in case science was needed. “Those storms look nasty, so we have any specific information on them?” She asked no one in particular.

"Hi!" Teno said to the Lieutenant Commander. "I'm running a general scan right now, just to see what we're working with. I don't have any results yet, just waiting, Commander." He said softly as he scrolled through the scan, pressing buttons on the station to help the scan along.

"Storms pretty bad down there... hope the Prophets can keep everyone safe..." Paco said to himself as he looked out a window and down to Helios III before going back to the computers to monitor the movement of the storm. As a Filipino, he would have personal knowledge on these kinds of geological phenomena, or at least, how similar storms historically affected the Philippines in the past. "Its going to be hard for anyone to evacuate peeps... the storms may cause too much interference for transporters to work properly, and the shuttles might get downed by the elements... Though I think the latter would have better a better chance, albeit slowly..." Paco thought out loud to himself before he took a sip of his water to settle his nerves. "... how would this event affect the local population culturally? Probably by a lot if this is the first time a storm like this has occured... I mean, cultures exposed to typhoons and stormy seasons usually adapt after some time, but this is beyond what anyone could reasonably prepare for..."

Lt. Cdr. Lilian So | SCI BOT 31-Aug-24 09:54 PM
“I suppose it all depends on how intense the storms are under the clouds. Seems like we’re about to find out.” Lilian sat next to Paco, looking over his shoulder to check the readings on the storm.

Lt. Zaru Teno | SCI BOT 31-Aug-24 10:36 PM
"Certainly," Teno said in response to both Commander So and Lieutenant Umali. "I hope we can do something, anything to make this go smoothly." Teno began reading the scans' results, trying to see if he could find any scientific backing for a good, or at least marginally better, way to send people down to the planet to help evacuate, or to get people up onto the Eventide.

Lt. Cdr. Lilian So | SCI BOT 31-Aug-24 11:34 PM
Lilian stared at the display in some horror. “What happened here… was this all the storm?” The sensors started to light up with life signs as the Eventide continued its approach. “At least it seems like some of the colony is still alive, but with all that wind and lightning we can’t just go out there in normal suits.”
Avatar
Lt. Zaru Teno | SCI BOT 31-Aug-24 11:39 PM
"Oh my word," Teno gasped, looking at the monitors also horrified. "It does look like the city has taken a huge beating from the storm but I did not realize from the sensor readings that it was this magnitude!"
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Lilian So | SCI BOT 31-Aug-24 11:59 PM
“We better start working on a solution now. Don’t want to leave those people there any long than we have to. Do we have any more information now that we’re below the clouds?” Lilian considered the Eventide options. Right now it seemed limited, with beaming and away teams too risky. They’d have to come up with something.

"I'm going to go out there...see if I can be of use in getting folks to the Eventide for evacuation. Good luck, I know you all can handle it." He nodded and moved to get to the turbolift.

"May the Prophet's guide you, Lieutenant." Paco said with a soft smile and nod as they watched Teno head to the turbolift, genuinely horrified by the sheer state of the destruction that afflicted the ground below. As much as he would like to join the rest of the rescue team, Paco very much knew that it was best to stay in the Eventide and monitor the conditions of the storm to keep the crew on the ground well informed, and also to help Engineering if ever they needed anything. "Monitoring meteorological sensors and deflector systems."
