Star Trek: Starbase 777
Ready to Archive / ice-rink
777's Ice Rink was set up by an Andorian-Aenar couple who were unimpressed by the holodeck, despite the fact that it can recreate any environment out there. They said it wasn't as good as the real thing, and so they decided to start maintaining the ice rink themselves. Come along to slip around on the ice, figure skate, or play ice hockey and curling.

Lt. Cdr. Alizati tr'Kota | ENG BOT 18-Sep-24 06:25 AM
Now here was a bizarre sight. An android at the ice rink! Alizati was dressed in long slim fitting trousers and a long sleeve sweater. Even though he was an android, he had knee pads and gloves on because if he were to fall, it would still hurt, mechanical or not. Alizati was fully aware that he was also incredibly heavy for his size due to his metal skeleton and other android components so having padding on his knees would help to better disperse his weight. This meant that if he were to fall, it probably wouldn't crack the ice. Alizati was without his mechanical companion, The Furberus. The creature was sitting in his quarters and Alizati did not trust them on the ice rink, even with their hover chair. He didn't want to risk them or someone else accidentally colliding. Alizati was no skilled skater and was gripping the wall for support. He took small steps on the ice to ensure he wouldn't fall. Alizati had little rubber pads on his gloves which allowed him to better grip the wall. He looked quite silly as he seemed to waddle across the ice.

Lt. Cdr. Drezoz Vac | OPS BOT 18-Sep-24 06:39 AM
Along came a an even stranger sight as Drezoz Vac was also skating, or at least trying to. He seemed to be going at a very slow pace using something that looked like a Large walker used for elderly humans or injured peoples. His knuckles were seemingly white as he gripped the walker and his neck was so tense one could mistake it for a metal beam. Drezoz had fought all kinds of cratures in all kinds of enviroments with many diffrent intruments and was a brillient communications officer but this was the most difficult thing he had done. He staired at his feet as he tried to get them in line and to stay in line to stay standing as he had opted out of using safty pads. He may not like the Klingon's sense of pride but he initially felt they would be ridiculous on him. Now however he wished he had asked for some, though they were not likely to have his size. So he slowly and gently waddled to the wall where someone else seemed to be having as difficult a time as him.

Alizati turned his head to see the struggling Klingon with what appeared to be some sort of assistive device. Alizati had no idea such equipment was available, perhaps he should have asked for one as well seeing how he was stuck having to grip the side wall to stay upright. A Klingon was not the type of person Alizati imagined would enjoy ice skating, but perhaps he was also like Alizati and trying to explore new hobbies? "What is that device called that you are using? I think I could use some extra support," Alizati took a few careful steps away from the wall and towards the Klingon. Alizati wasn't that much taller than the Klingon, only by a couple inches and Alizati was hunched over in order to keep his centre of gravity low. One would think being heavier would help keep him steady on the ice, but it actually made it worse. Alizati's legs were doing a shallow split as he moved.

"I uh don't know, uh, assistance device maybe, uh, cannot t-t-think at the moment" Drezoz explained. He almost fell again as he talked making his eyes almost pop out of his head for a moment. "I-if you need I am willing to help you reach the staging area" he offered as he figured eight points of contacts rather than six.

Alizati straightened his posture slowly, trying to get a better feel for the ice. In neither of Alizati's two lives had he ever ice skated. His predecessor was a Vulcan scientist on Vulcan, a desert planet. As for Alizati himself, he had lived on a farm and on earth. Earth had ice, but Okinawa Japan, not much ice on the tropical island and unfortunately he had never been up north to Hokkaido for the snow festival. He steadied himself and spread his arms in a T-pose. "Perhaps we could both move towards the wall. It would be an added support and you wouldn't be in the middle of the rink," Alizati glanced around at the people skating past them. Thankfully it wasn't too crowded on the ice and the people who were there, were avoiding them.

"Yes I think that is a good idea" Drezoz said in agreement as he started to try and point himself in the right direction and started to go forward, slowly. He kept almost twisting his ankle a few times but he managed to stay upright but he was slowly drifting. He hazarded a bit of speed only to fall backward onto his butt with a loud thud and the legs of the assistance device went in the air but Drezoz managed to keep a grip on it.

Alizati was walking precariously on the ice, glancing over at Drezoz in short intervals to make sure the other was stable. It was not until they had been wobbling along a bit more until the Klingon officer fell right on his ass! Alizati stopped as best he could and carefully made his way to the fallen officer. He grabbed the assistive device to steady it and himself. "My elements, are you alright?" Alizati asked, doing a little squat so he could better balance himself and offered a hand. Typically he did not touch hands with others freely, but in case of an emergency or someone needing his assistance of course he wouldn't mind. "I may look slim, but I am an android and will have no trouble lifting your weight," Alizati informed the other, realising he was a bit of a skinny legend, but wanted to reassure this man that he was fully capable of providing the needed assistance.

"No no I-I can get up, I don't wish to accidently pull you down with me" Drezoz said waving a hand as best he could as he manuvered. He managed to get to his hands and knees and slowly start to stand using the assistance device to get standing again. He managed to then get to the wall and brace himself enough to say "Thank you, though Drezoz Vac, You?"

Alizati straightened his posture when the other stood up on his own. He was beginning to gain a good footing on the ice, but he still didn't want to risk moving too fast and meeting the same fate as the Klingon. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Drezoz," Alizati bowed his head shallowly, knowing if he tried to go any deeper in his bow he'd surely tip over. He did not recognise the name straight out, so assuming this man was probably from another division or a civilian. He could have been a new engineering transfer, but the name was unique so Alizati thought hd would have remembered. "My name is Alizati tr'Kota, I am the chief engineer on this station," Alizati said, giving his full name and title. "What are your duties here? It is clearly not.. ice related," Alizati attempted to make a joke, but with his Vulcan monotone it certainly didn't sound like a joke. Humour was never his strong suit anyway. Alizati's dark green eyes stayed fixed on Drezoz, prepared to leap into action if the other were to fall again. Realistically, Alizati knew if Drezoz went tumbling and he attempted a save, he'd most likely also go tumbling.

"Operations, communications specifically, I uh have always worked radios and find their operation enjoyable" Drezoz explained while carefully keeping his balance. He started to get into the flow of the skate but relying heavily on the assistance device. He kept his eyes down and focused intently on his feet to make sure he stayed upright. "I have been a communications officer for sometime, even in my time in the Klingon Defense force, though I prefer it in Starfleet" He explained. For some reason talking about it helped him stay upright. He suspected it might be one of those, don't think about it to do better kind of situations commonly found in earth story's.*

"That is fascinating. I know a little about communications as a whole, but my knowledge is only the basics," Alizati responded when learrning that this man was one of the communications officers and former KDF officer. It was intriguing to hear a Klingon preferring Starfleet. He supposed for someone who wanted to focus more on maintaining systems, a slower pace would be nice. The KDF was pretty stressful, so he had heard. Alizati began to skate a bit more naturally, moving his feet as if he were walking. He wasn't able to lift his feet completely off of the ice, but he wasn't falling, which was a good thing. "I am glad you like it here, when did you switch and.. what sort of cultural differences surprised you? I have been working in Starfleet my entire life so I am interested in hearing about experiences of those from other factions."
