It was through the corridors of the Operational deck that Treville now headed, politely acknowledging those who went by. It did seem to be quieter at present, though - with them being late into the evening and shit change-over long passed, most people were preoccupied at present.

Commodore Aleto Treville | CMD BOT 19-Nov-21 09:43 PM
By the time she exited the turbolift and began the walk down to Operations her stride had turned into more of a power-walk than anything, swiftly marching along and indicating with a single gesture that the officers who were heading the other way should turn back around and return to work immediately. It was something that hadn’t been seen in months now since the end of the Federation’s recent conflicts, but the way they all fell back into the strangely sombre march seemed to be muscle memory by this stage.

Checking in with those who had left was a given; even if they didn't want to speak right now it was a courtesy to make sure that they were at least safe. Unfortunately there was no sign of the civilian in the corridor and he had no idea if the computer would tell him where they were considering they weren't an officer. Noting that he would have to contact them somehow, he instead focused on Whidbey who seemed to be heading in the direction of the turbolift.

She knew it could be stressful if someone interrupted freetime that one had already planned to use on other things.

Styre nodded, his blonde curls bouncing on his head. "Would you rather walk back to the Eventide or stay aboard the station, Lieutenant?"
Avatar
Lt. JG. Ava Lopez | SCI BOT 05-Dec-21 02:07 AM
“I haven’t really been on the Eventide,” said Ava, “I was so far only conducting research in the labs here on the station, or I was otherwise occupied here. However, I wouldn’t mind checking out the Eventide now that I finally have the time!”

Commodore Aleto Treville | CMD BOT 05-Dec-21 02:09 PM
As the two exited from the events hall she glanced to Dreaxa by her side, expression somewhat solemn but also contemplative. "This is the issue with incidents like this - that in the aftermath we're faced with the tragedy of what's happened, but also the fact that people did well. It's always hard to imagine that we've done something right when so many people died. The fact of the matter is that without the actions of our officers there wouldn't be anyone here to attend that ceremony -- far too many died, but the actions of both them and those still with us enabled the rest of us to live. ...Hypocritical of me to say, I know," she then added at the end, offering a sheepish smile as they walked along. "At least that's everything over and done with now, and according to reports, the repairs are well underway. Things should be going back to normal... Just with far fewer staff, that is. It'll be good to actually get back to normal business - meeting all of you senior staff, for example. All of the senior ranks are new, Eventide is new, so many of our normal staff are new... I barely know any of my own people any more!" She then added with a laugh - as genuine as it could be - and shook her head. "Either myself or the previous deputy used to welcome every new arrival at the shuttlebay. Too many of you have gone unwelcomed -- that young Cadet should have been. I've never heard of someone being allowed to skip two years; that commission is impressive, and certainly well earned, don't you think?"
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Vialara Dreaxa | MED BOT 05-Dec-21 02:24 PM
"I agree with you on that part, despite everything we lost, it's important to focus on the fact that we're still here and we worked hard to keep it that way. Despite the guilt we might all feel to those who didn't make it alongside us." She sighed, thinking back to the loss of her Chief Medical Officer. "But alas, the battle is over, and now we must focus on recovery. As much as we should mourn our losses, dwelling on the past for too long only hinders our recovery." She gave a gentle smile and made her way further down the ops corridor with Aleto. "There's even more new staff coming aboard now to deal with, I've got a significant amount in my department already. It appears Starfleet are already drafting in replacement officers from across the galaxy to fill the spaces. Eight-thousand officers is a large space to fill... It's going to take time to get back to where we once were. I don't think you'll find yourself welcoming all of your replacement staf onboard or you'll have to start living in the shuttlebay." She said with a chuckle. "And commendation wise, you're very correct commodore. It's rare to see such a sight. But I'm glad to know we have somebody that dedicated working among us."
Avatar
Commodore Aleto Treville | CMD BOT 05-Dec-21 03:12 PM
"We'll likely be operating at half-capacity for a while," she stated, slightly rambling small talk now being replaced with efficient work-talk. It seemed clear that her talent for keeping a conversation going hadn't been underestimated. It must have been a learned trait during all of those years of sociability with the Diplomatic Corps. "There's no way for them to acquire eight-thousand qualified staff of varying different rank and role from out of nowhere. Our starbase is hardly the most imperative one and there are other crews out there who will have priority over us; they'll ensure we can keep things operating at least and then stop diverting people here. After us being over-staffed for the last two years, they'll more than likely prioritise other places." Acknowledging a few officers as they headed past, she turned so the two could head towards the turbolift. "That brings me to a similar topic, actually. How is it that you ended up out here with us in the back of the beyond? There are countless other medical positions out there and the medical fleet never stop recruiting for their ships or hospital starbases. How does a successful surgeon such as yourself wind up out here? Had you requested a transfer, or was it just a generic 'being sent somewhere new'?"

"Not to flatter you or anything, Commodore. But you were actually a small part of the reason I decided to come all the way out here. You made a good impression on me back when we met on the Hawthorne and the brief layover at Starfleet Medical. When I saw your name as the commanding officer of 777, I guess I sort of wanted to catch up again. If you were that kind back then, you might be a good leader to work under." She chuckled and gave her a smile. "But don't let that go to your head, there were many factors that lead to me being here. My preference of Starbase over Starship, the desire to see the outer edges of federation space, seeing a part of the Galaxy I had never been to before. It all culminatied in my being here. And honestly, might not have picked the best time to move here." She said with a sad, disheartened chuckle. "But I guess it was fate that I did. Because if I hadn't you probably wouldn't be here anymore. I don't think any of our surgeons, no offense of course, would have had the capability to pull off such a skilled surgery on a joined trill. In many ways, I turned up at exactly the right time."
Avatar
Commodore Aleto Treville | CMD BOT 05-Dec-21 07:15 PM
"Well, I don't know what to say other that I'm flattered. I don't think I've ever had someone specifically transfer because of me before... At least to the station. They may have transferred away from it because of me. Not to discredit your other reasons, of course," she added at the end, having been joking, naturally. Treville couldn't remember anyone having transferred away because of her to her own knowledge, but there was always the possibility that it might have happened without her knowing about it. "And you're quite right about the latter. It isn't often that joining is performed by someone external to the Symbiosis Commission - and when it is performed by outsiders, it doesn't often go well." There were always horror stories that circulated around Trill society revolving around the concept of joinings gone wrong. In recent years a lot of those had stemmed from other species 'tampering' with Joined Trill as it was viewed. It wasn't so much tampering as providing medical care to those who weren't on the planet, but the society had always been suspicious and untrustworthy of what went on elsewhere. For so long their symbiosis had gone unknown to other cultures out of that lack of trust. For candidates to be joined the nightmare was their joining going wrong; for those who were joined it surrounded horror stories of the likes of symbionts being stolen -- everyone remembered the story from 2333. Opting not to muse on the potential downsides of joining, she carried on with the lighter topic instead. "I for one am quite glad to have you here, Commander, as I've said before and will reiterate again. It's also nice to see some familiar faces aboard. Starfleet staffing always seems to come full circle."

Lt. Cdr. Vialara Dreaxa | MED BOT 06-Dec-21 12:35 AM
"Glad to be here, Commodore. As much as the last few days have been a tad... stressful per say. I'm glad I chose those posting over anything else. I'm sure my new life here will go just as smoothly as my previous postings. I look forward to new found friendships and developing my relationships with the crew further. I've certainly had an amazing time with you these past few days, you make for great company." She said with a smile. "It's nice to just sit and converse with people. We'll need to have a proper catch-up of how things have been since we last spoke." Vialara was curious as to how things had been with the woman since the incident she had previously helped Aleto out of, wondered how the rest of her recovery went, how she had ended up becoming a commodore in charge of an entire starbase. She had a lot of questions for the woman, and honestly was willing to sit and listen to the woman talk for hours. Aleto had a certain aura about her that Vialara found enticing, she made for an excellent conversation partner.

Commodore Aleto Treville | CMD BOT 06-Dec-21 02:18 AM
"You sound as though you're trying to promote formal recruitment to the station or answer an interview question for a position here," she replied in amusement, referring to how formal Dreaxa had sounded. It was interesting how they seemed to flip back and forth throughout the conversation; the station commander and the chief medical officer employing formality and civility compared to two old acquaintances simply talking. Treville didn't mind either and she wasn't about to set some sort of precedent based on rigorous formalities. It wasn't her style of command. "I'm sure that you'll find 777 to be quite pleasant now that things are settling down again. Not to turn this into a recruitment drive of my own but we do host more civilian facilities than our neighbouring stations and have far more opportunity for research or study... And not to mention that we're about to become the starbase that has most recently been refurbished." Coming to a halt in front of one of the turbolifts, she waited for it to arrive while continuing their chat. "I'm sure that we would have a fair bit to catch up on. You must have such stories - people serving aboard ships always have entire novels of them, practically. It's the benefit of being able to experience so much..." There was a vague gesture of her hand. "...Out there. My own are rather limited considering it's been quite some time since I even set foot aboard a ship."

It was silent out in the hallway: it seemed that everyone who had attended the ball had vanished back to their quarters and those at work were well into their shift by now. Stepping out of the events hall and into the corridor brought quite the contrast. Gone was the shining black flooring and the ambient dark blue lighting - instead they were back to standard Starfleet colours. It made you realise just how much work that the events team had put in. For a moment she and Dreaxa walked in silence before she felt as though she should break it. "...And from that, we go back into normality. It makes our day-to-day lives seem so dull in comparison, doesn't it?"
Avatar

"But it is nice to have a break now and again, I think we all deserved it, don't you? After all that's happened it's the least we could have done for all our overworked staff, just a little thing to show how much we appreciated all their work."
Avatar
Commodore Aleto Treville | CMD BOT 24-Dec-21 04:53 PM
"You say that as though it was the two of us who personally set the events hall up," she mused and cast a sideward glance to the doctor, although it was definitely in amusement as opposed to be in an effort to chastise her. "It was the overworked staff who overworked themselves more in order to put that together. I hope they enjoyed it, at least. Something nice like that is what they deserve," she then added towards the end before heading them into one of the turbolifts.

"Something like that, probably." He'd have to look into it more when the mission was over, he thought, as he followed Allan into the #station-ops.

He walked through the corridor as he bounced a ball. The young man whistled to himself as if he was on a casual stroll.

Bellona hated having nothing to do. She'd never really taken well to it, really. Maybe it was the gladiator in her talking - or it might have been divine discontent. Who knows. Either way she could no longer stand sitting in an empty office with nothing to do, and so she'd taken to pacing the mostly empty corridors in silence.

Amanda on the other hand was never someone to aimlessly walk around unless she had to, and she never really thought she had to aimlessly walk around anywhere. Stepping out from the command offices, Amanda had a confident strut in her step as she entered the hallway, upon seeing a new face. "Well hi there!" Amanda said, not too loud, but still showing off her friendly and outgoing nature. "I'm Amanda Riley, I'm the new Morale Officer aboard the station! What's your name?"

For a good second or two Bellona stood stunned in the hallway, staring at the black-haired woman that seemed to have spontaneously materialized in front of her. Granted, the chance of her actually having stepped out of a side office were practically one hundred percent - which simply went to show how distracted she'd been. Bellona cursed herself in Magna Romani. She wasn't normally this inattentive. "Bellona. Away team coordinator. Newly arrived." The redhead replied. Very outgoing, this woman. No wonder she'd been selected to fill the morale officer's shoes. "It is... nice to meet you. Amanda." *She'd never been good at small talk. Ever. It'd always been so much easier to just not.*

Ah, that happened sometimes... Amanda tried to approach as calmly as possible while still seeming confident, and yet it scared the bejeezus out of Bellona. Hey, at least she tried! Oh well. Amanda lowered her voice slightly and kept herself a bit calmer while still presenting herself as outgoing and confident. Of course, if Bellona wasn't able to reciprocate that then she'd adjust accordingly. "Oh yes, you're Bellona!" Amanda said, matter-of-factly. "I saw your name on the crew roster, I'm glad I'm able to put your name to your face!" Amanda's smile was professional and friendly, and she appeared as if she wouldn't be able to harm a fly with her cheery attitude. It was quite inspiring for many to see Amanda's perseverance in maintaining a strong leadership mentality, especially in a potentially awkward situation. "Looks like we are in the same division!" Amanda mentioned. "It's a pleasure to work alongside you, Bellona. Have you just gotten here like I have? If so then we're both new to the station."

"I thought I mentioned that. Yes, I am newly arrived." Amanda's energy stabbed at her sharply, albeit not in an unpleasant way - energy Bellona simply wasn't used to people directing her way. After years of dealing with young and stupid (and often also entitled) cadets, superiors who were far too laissez-faire in their attitudes towards their work and stuffy old admirals who barely bothered to look her in the eye, having someone greet her quite so enthusiastically was something of a refreshing change. "I see that there will be no shortage of high spirits as long as you have anything to say about it," Bellona mentioned - rather stiffly, maybe. She still wasn't good at small talk. She'd never been. She looked down the mostly empty hallway. "I don't normally wander like this. I am not used to being idle." She admitted. "Where were you headed?" (edited)

Ah yes, even Amanda happened to slip sometimes, she was so used to her confident nature that she'd speak before she had the time to think. Natural, really, she was one to certainly take initiative on things. "Oh! Yes you did, my apologies," Amanda said, a slight hint of embarrassment in her voice, before she returned to her normal confident demeanor. "You're correct! I'll make sure that everyone is of the highest morale and spirits so we have a unified, happy and safe community aboard the station!" Amanda nodded in understanding Bellona's concern about wandering. "No worries! Wandering isn't a bad thing at all," Amanda said. "Not that you said so, but just as reassurance! Wandering requires you to walk around so you have physical activity while you're thinking! Wandering may be a good way to relieve stress as well!" Amanda responded to Bellona's second inquiry. "Oh! My shift is over, so I was headed to get some food at the food carts. Would you care to join me? I love company!"

Once again, being invited to meals was something that happened rarely to Bellona. Very, very rarely. She normally preferred to keep her cadets (and colleagues) at an arms' length at best in the interests of maintaining the utmost professionalism in her work and the people around her picked up on it after a while. But then again, she was new on board (as was Amanda) and she couldn't possibly expect her to know that. And, funnily enough, part of her simply couldn't think to say no. "I suppose I could." She replied, hesitantly. She had nothing else to do for now after all. "I've not eaten since coming aboard. Do you have any recommendations?" Yes, Bellona, assume that the newly arrived girl has already been round. Lovely.

Right away by her new colleague's reaction, Amanda could tell or at least estimate that Bellona wasn't really used to being invited to things like this. Well, Amanda thought, now was the time to invite her, now was the time to help her feel included. "Sure thing! We could head down there now! Get something to eat, see what they have." Amanda did try to rack her brain of the limited information she had but couldn't. "Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations as of yet, I guess we'll both be finding out together! Shall we?" Amanda said, smiling.

"Yes. We shall." Bellona was, admittedly, still not entirely sure about her new colleague, but she supposed looking for food was hardly the strangest thing they could do together, especially since they were both new to the starbase as a whole. She set off for the turbolift in silence and with her arms folded. Clearly she wasn't very good at small talk or conversation, if that hadn't been abundantly obvious up till this point.

Yes! She'd done it! A new friend aboard the starbase in just a few short minutes! "Okay! Let's go!" Amanda said, heading with Bellona to #turbolift.
