Kel put dropped down a box full of some personal belongings with a long groan. He didn't expect to end up on a station but on first inspection the quarters were quite nice. He decided to test out the replicator and get himself a nice cup of juice to sip on while he unpacked. He didn't intend to be here for long but keeping a nice organized quarters was important to him.

[D] Renakir was chilling after the events with the Kinaen and everything. Although he wasn't part of the away team, he was able to catch a few conversations with the crew as they were handed off to the Republic. One thing people overlooked when it came to being a transportation officer was the amount of people and gossip Renakir got to hear with his hyper sensitive floppy ears. He was meaning to ask Saren his side of the events, but unfortunately he had work today so catching up would have to wait. Renakir walked down the corridor to one of the rooms and chimed the buzzer. Today, just like every day, Renakir was dressed in his pretty black and grey uniform with the golden band around the shoulder. His sunglasses rested perfectly straight on the bridge of his nose and his hair was neatly combed with the sides shaved. He held a PADD with Two hands and stood outside of the door waiting for a response.

Kel was taken away from his drink when the door rang. He fumbled it and spilled it on his fresh blue uniform. Internally he panicked, he was really hoping not to stain his first impression with juice. "One second!" He yelled awkwardly as he tried and failed to get his uniform off. Eventually he acted fast and threw on a jacket over his uniform. It made for a goofy look but it looked better then having a stained shirt ontop In his mind. Finally he opened the door for Renakir. "How can I help you?" He looked Reni up and down, that was a bit of an odd look, he ran through his medical textbooks quickly though and identified reni as atleast part Reman. That's probably why he was wearing the sunglasses.

Renakir waited patiently, hearing some shuffling from inside the room. He hoped he didn't come at a bad time, it was always awkward making 'house calls'. Not that people had weird rooms, although sometimes people had some weird decorations, but because Renakir always felt like he was imposing on someone's space even if he was called specifically to be there. He shifted his weight between his legs before the doors whooshed open and he saw a short human standing before him. "Ensign Kelenic?" Renakir said, pronouncing 'Kelenic' more like 'Kelenish' with his French accent. He tried not to let the fact that the ensign was looking him up and down get to him. 'Please don't think I'm an asshole who wears sunglasses indoors', Renakir thought, knowing very well that was the first thing many people thought. "There was a request for assistance here? My name is Lieutenant Renakir Solait," Renakir introduced himself, thinking it would clear up any questions about his species. He was just a Reman dude here to help.

Kelenic kept a smile on his face. He didn't particularly care about people putting accents on his name given that he knew it was hard to pronounce. "If you would humor me, feel free to just call me Kel. I know it's a bit informal but I've found it keeps things easy." He didn't necessarily want to let on that he caught Renakir accenting his name but it didn't particularly matter in his mind. "And of course it's quite nice to meet you Lieutenant." He joked. "I hope I won't have to see you too much while I'm on duty but I'm quite happy to make your acquintaince." He stepped to the side of the door and then said. "Please come in!" Somewhat excitedly.

Renakir didn't return the smile, he was not good at expressing a wide range of emotions still, but his face was calm. He nodded when the other requested to be called by a nickname, not thinking anything of it. He had people calling him Rennie after all, and nicknames were an integral part of Romulan culture. "Alright Kel, and it is nice to meet you too," Things seemed to be going well so far, although Renakir rarely had issues with other Starfleet officers. It was the civilians that gave him problems, and it was usually just the nitpicky ones, nothing about him or anything. "I hope so too, respectfully. I mean, I don't plan on getting injured anytime soon," Renakir said with an awkarwd laugh and a shake of his head. When invited, he stepped into the room and looked around. "So, what can I help you with? Or well first is there any stuff that you had waiting to be transported that I can get in here for you today?"

He looked a little bit defeated as Renakir didnt seem to reflect the smile. All work and no play makes for dull times. Honestly it only reminded him that he never really wanted to be here. He didnt see himself being as helpful as he wanted to here. Finally though he lifted himself back up and returned to the room, as he walked in he leaned down and gave a little knock to his box full if personal objects. "I've got all my stuff here, I'm not particularly picky so it's not like I need a grand piano here or anything." He laughed at his own joke and then moved on. "Honestly, when I graduated statfleet I was expecting much worse accommodations on some frontier outpost." He had a bit of an aftershock laugh. "From a certain perspective, this is heaven compared to where I wanted to be."

Renakir was initially confused what was with the change of expression in the human officer, but he was trying not to dwell on things too much. He was fully aware he was awkward and clumsy with interactions, even at work. Anyway focusing on the task at hand, he looked towards the box that Kel was leaning over and nodded in acknowledgment. "I can certainly help you with unpacking, just tell me what to put where," Renakir didn't laugh at the joke, but he did put his PADD in his pocket and listened quietly. "I am glad you are impressed by the station. As I am aware all Starfleet postings come with more or less the same amenities? I suppose ships have smaller quarters though. What were you hoping for?" Maybe it was just because Renakir was Romulan, but any Starfleet posting felt like a five star hotel to him. For one, the Tal Shiar controlled Navy did not include little umbrellas in their cocktails or epohh day care. (edited)

He started moving back into his shell a little bit, clearly just being himself didn't seem to be working all that well for him. At the very least it was clear that his attempts to break the ice with jokes was not going to work out for him. Now that he was moving back into his shell it came with a bit of awkwardness when he had to address the fact he didn't really want to be on the station. He rubbed his neck slowly, a nervous tick. "Well... I wanted to provide aid, you know, help people more in the field." He shrugged, he thought for a moment about cracking some joke about amenities but he was scared that it'd just land dry and make him look like more of an idiot then he allready looked like in his mind. So far his first impressions weren't going well with the Lieutenant. Kel was still new to being a proper starfleet ensign so he figured that these kinds of first impressions would be important but under self assessment he was failing miserably. Slowly he was spiraling more and more. If only he could've gotten one of those medical assignments.

Renakir may not have been a telepath or even an empath, but he could tell whatever he said struck a nerve? He was just trying to help, or maybe his social skills were worse than he thought, which would be pretty bad considering he only had one 'suave and sexy' moment in his 30 years of life so far. "I think this would be the best place for that. I mean, the base is huge and you get to help not just Starfleet officers, but civilians too. If anything, you have more chances to show your stuff," Renakir said with a thumbs up, but no smile. Even if he couldn't show his emotions well on his face, he knew a few friendly gestures that may help get his feelings across. "But.. I get wanting to be on the front lines kinda deal. I will tell you, this is a good first posting. I uhh, fought in the Iconian War. Not like fight, more like I just fixed turbolifts, but seeing some of the junior officers, I felt bad for them because they didn't have all the tools and experience yet and everything was do or die," Renakir said with a warm tone, hoping to lift the ensign's spirits about being on a station. "I take it you've never lived on a starbase before? We're right next to Klingon and Romulan space, you can visit Qo'nos or Mol'Rihan any time, I think that's pretty exciting, but maybe I'm a little biased because my family lives on Mol'Rihan."

He didn't like being told he wasn't ready. He was still at that phase in life where he was hard headed, thinking he was indestructible. He didn't like being told that he couldn't do something that he'd been doing even before joining starfleet. He recognized his firat inpression was failing so he decided to let his emotions get ahead of him. "Respectfully, If I wanted to treat just any bunch of federation citizens I would've stayed at home in Jersey and never bothered with the 4 years." He immediately regretted his charged words however it was now too late for him to take them back. "Respectfully I don't like being on a base just floating around when far more people are dieing from disease on a daily basis." He frowned, he then however decided to add. "I'll damn sure do my best while I'm here but I have no intent to stick around long term."

Renakir looked at Kel with much confusion before glancing away as he tried to form his response in words. Thoughtful and careful with words, it took a few seconds of silence before he looked at Kel again. ''Respectfully'-- is that the formal version of 'no offense'?' the thought went through Renakir's mind for a split second before he opened his mouth. "Not everyone onboard is a Federation citizen, I mean, you're looking at a non-citizen," Renakir pointed to himself and tried to smile, but it looked more like a creepy grin with his sharp teeth showing. "Anyway, we're right next to Klingon and Romulan spaces, if there's any place with more resources to learn and grow-- it's right here. We're not just floating around, we're a huge diplomatic base. I mean, not to play on my species' stereotype but if there's any place to be a medic it's on a starbase right next to our backyard. We're not exactly known for our non-violent solutions to problems," And to that Renakir actually laughed, his deep voice echoing off the bare walls. "And if you're unhappy with this assignment you can request a transfer. But.... Is there something else keeping you here?" Renakir thought it was bizarre the ensign would have agreed to a posting he clearly was not enthusiastic about. His earlier comment about 777 being 'heaven' was also a bit confusing. Maybe he had family? Expectations? Or something that was keeping him on 777 which would explain why he was at a place he clearly did not want to be at.

He sighed and then wandered over to his couch to take a seat. He didn't want to go through a whole therapy session but the least he could do for himself was sit down if he was going to get into things. "What can I say, most of the juicy frontier assignments were taken by the..." It pained him to say this, so he tried to give it a sarcastic spin to justify it to himself. "'better' medical students" He was still pissed at himself for falling behind on his studies. Allowing himself to become to distracted while the goings were easy. He was Chris god damn Kelenic, he still had excessive amounts of self belief. "They aren't going to let someone fresh out of the academy transfer. This was the best option I had, not miserable but still I'm no diplomat. There's no pandemic of some strange disease here for me to help fight, just injuries and light diseases. Nothing I couldn't be doing at home." It was clear he had thought things through and it did really bug him even if he'd never admit it. "and you know what? I'll deal with it for a year, it really is fine. Then I'll be moving on to where I can make the difference I want to make."

Renakir still didn't get what was up, but he followed Kel to the sofa, but didn't sit down. Instead he just adjusted his sunglasses and rubbed the back of his head as he listened to the other talk about how 'boring' he expected this posting to be. "I would say we're the juiciest frontier. Have you seen a Klingon's backside?" Renakir said with a chuckle and then shook his head. "I mean, really, we have some exciting stuff. I do believe we have a lot going on, I mean not too long ago we had a Romulan ghost possessing people and attempted to commit murders on the station commander and an admiral," Renakir was a 777 supremacist, he would admit. He loved this posting and not just because of the 'juicy' bits. "They'll let you transfer if you don't like it here, and just letting you know, I know a lot of ships that see much less action than us," Renakir said with a bit of confusion in his tone. "After the Republic was founded I requested to be assigned here to be with my family, "Renakir didn't want the ensign to think he was somehow 'trapped' on 777. He may have liked the base, but he respected that starbase life wasn't everyone's cup of tea. "Anyway, we had a crazy disease here a few months back, it was uhh.. Weird. It's not unheard of though, and with Klingons and Romulans passing in and out they bring some weird stuff. I cannot tell you how often I need to seize Gagh shipments because of weird pathogens that come up on scanners," Renakir wished he could do more to sell the excitement of 777 but it was hard when there was simply so many things.

He shook his head when he was told he could transfer. There weren't many starfleet jobs that truly met his standards. There weren't any left on the list of assignments for first years. "Oh trust me I will transfer, eventually, the list of assignments for first year ensigns isn't long. I'd just be trading down if I transfered now. As for action, don't think for a second that I'm scared of action, I can handle myself just fine. It's lack of action." "No offense but if I'm searching Gagh for pathogens when I'm a Lieutenant, the ensign version of myself might actual throw up." Truely, he felt that he was being wasted just sitting around doing routine work. He wanted to be on the cutting edge helping with medical research or on a deselet planet where a proper pathogen was sweeping the planet. He still has romantic dreams of being a Bashir or a McCoy or a Flox if he wasn't actually a proper doctor. Then however he stopped himself. "Though, now that you mention it... tell me about this crazy disease. Are there going to be more?" He then decided that hoping for a pathogen probably wasn't for the best and slightly lowered his external excitement level.

Renakir was still unsure what the ensign's apprehensions were about the station. Or maybe it was just hard to understand from Renakir's perspective as he was quite happy when he heard he would be stationed so close to home. He hadn't had a long Starfleet career, but having to travel so far from home for the Academy and then his first couple of postings, he was glad to be on 777. He pulled out his PADD to check the time and ensign Kel's profile again as the other spoke about searching Gagh for pathogens just to check Kel's job. Paramedic? Wait.. "It's a messy job for sure," Renakir replied as he put his PADD back into his pocket. "I'm not sure, but it was a weird happening for sure. It...Reversed all our personalities," Renakir said, moving his hands in a circle to try and demonstrate 'reverse'. "But... You're a paramedic, right? Disease reseearch and stuff, I think that's what doctors do, right?" Renakir asked, curious why the ensign was talking about wanting to do all these things that he wouldn't even be qualified to do in the first place? Or maybe he was planning on going back to school in the future? It was very bizarre. Anyway, Renakir readjusted his sunglasses and ran his fingers through his hair to feel the hairs on the side of his head were getting quite long-- he'd have to ask Eshen about a trim soon.

[D] Renakir soon helped Kel with moving his stuff. There wasn't that much but the two had a nice chat. Once that was done, Renakir asked Kel to confirm that he was good to call the task complete and headed off on his way. As he left the ensign's quarters he couldn't help but feel an itch of worry for him. Although it wasn't a requirement that everyone be in love with their posting, the fact that Kel seemed to be so disappointed with the posting-- and with talk of doing the work of a doctor, it worried him. Anyway, he gave Kel some recommendations of cool places to go, including Surak Snacks to meet his father, before heading out. Maybe after exploring more of the station Kel would fall in love with it and come to appreciate the diverisity of its inhabitants, Starfleet and civilian alike.
