Star Trek: Starbase 777 - lt-jg-tud﹢lt-jg-v’tel

After an incredibly stressful first day and duty on an away mission gone not entirely to plan, Jamis finally arrived at his new quarters, opening the door to an incredible sigh. He wanted - scratch that needed - some sleep, but he also made a point to contact his family back home on Earth before he got too settled in. And especially after a day like today, it was probably best to let them know what happened, and that he was alright. Jamis plopped his bag of belongings down on the bed on the left, sitting down next to it and beginning to unpack what he presently needed. He could do the rest later, but for now, call his folks at home, then sleep.

Not long after, V'Tel made his way to his quarters. Though he wasn't directly involved with the away mission, it was hectic enough to drain him. He needed some nice, quiet alone time. Unfortunately, it didn't look like he'd be getting that. After opening the door, he was surprised to see someone else in the quarters. Of course, he knew he'd be getting a roommate, but it didn't fully occur to him until then. "Oh, hello," he said, standing in front of the doorway. On second thought, maybe he would be able to get some rest. He noticed the other seemed drained as well.

“Oh, good evening!” Jamis sat up from his bed as he saw the person he assumed to be his roommate step in for the first time, too. He smiled at them kindly. “You must be my roommate for the time being. Jamis Tud, at your service.” He introduced himself, getting off the bed and putting his hand out to shake. “Investigations Officer. You’re wearing Gold, too, I see. Also Security? Or Engineering? Or Operations, even? It’s hard to tell; I keep saying that Starfleet needs to reorganise its sections and uniforms. It's confusing at times, even for me.”

"It's a pleasure to meet you," V'Tel replied with a small smile. He glanced down at the hand Jamis held out but didn't shake it. A small part of him felt bad for ignoring it. He didn't want to seem rude, but he learned a while ago it was just a possibility he'd have to live with. "Chaya V'Tel," he said in return. "I'm also in Security. Security Systems Officer. And, I agree, actually. I, personally, don't think the system makes that much sense."

Jamis blinked at the lack of a handshake but then realised that he was part Vulcan. He really had to learn to remember different people's limits. Another thing to look at once he settled. Then he heard name suddenly clicked in head. Half-Bajoran too. A memory circulated around their memory for a moment and he chuckled to himself, lowering his hand, unoffended. "Forgive me, but I had a former CO who was also Half-Vulcan, Half-Bajoran." He explained. "Captain Eco V'Les. She was...more open to other cultural systems like handshakes and such, but then again she was a Captain so I suppose that was part of her job."

V'Tel was a little surprised by the consideration. He wasn't expecting it, but it was definitely welcome. "There's no need to worry. It's not a problem," he said with a nod. Well, that was one less thing to worry about. Looking at Jamis, he noticed the spots on the side of his face. "You're Trill, yes?" He asked. "Are you joined? Assuming you don't mind me asking, of course." He tacked the last bit hastily at the end. He was only curious, but didn't want to seem rude.

"Oh yes, I am!" Jamis nodded eagerly, putting his hand up with four fingers. "I'm fourth in hopefully a long line. Though not too soon, for obvious reasons. If I can beat Humble, my last host, and his time of ten years that should be a good sign. Though I suppose he was a late bloomer on the joining part." Jamis liked talking about their previous hosts; it helped a lot when they first joined with the Symbiont, talking about their experiences in different contexts, and they kept it up after the fact, because people always seemed to be interested.

"What is it like? How long have you been joined for? As Jamis, at least," he asked. He paused before speaking again. "I'm sorry if the questions are too much, I've always been interested by the Trill. I think a small part of my has always wanted to be able to switch bodies," he said with a small laugh. Though, V'Tel could pick up the fact that they enjoyed talking about their hosts, so he assumed it would be safe to continue the line of conversation. He still made a mental note not to be too invasive with his questions, though. He knew he could get carried away otherwise.
