Lieutenant Sorn | OPS BOT 10-Oct-23 04:26 AM
[D] Sorn had recently finished his shift and was now more than ready to eat. It had been a standard shift of meanial documentation, but he still was hungry. He was a Vulcan in his early thirties wearing the standard gold uniform of the operations division and the rank insignia of a lieutenant. Sorn had his hair and uniform to exactly as they were supposed to be according to Starfleet regulations, and generally did not stand out among the ocean of gold uniforms. The quartermaster sat alone at a table with a spoon in old hand and a PADD in the other. He had a bowl of plomeek soup, a few pieces of bread, and a cup of spice tea in front of him. Sorn focused on reading the PADD in front of him, occasionally remembering to eat. He was also oblivious to his surroundings, being completely engrossed in the reading.

Not long after Sorn had arrived, a new face had entered the mess hall and did a beeline toward the replicator, with this lanky golden haired man grabbing a plate of waffles with condensed milk, one of his favorite after-shift snacks since it gave him a lot of energy. Along with that, he got himself some passionfruit juice and looked around for a table, with the only non-occupied one being the one in which Sorn currently sat. With a barely visible shrug to himself, he made his way toward the table and stood there with a dorky smile as he spoke up, "Hello there! Um- Would you mind if I sat next to you? The other tables are emptied out! If not that's completely fine too, mate, but just askin'-" You go, you awkward noodle.

Sorn looked up to see the engineer, not recognizing them. They appeared to be a younger human that had just finished a more physical shift. The vulcan assumed that they were an engineer, but it was hard to tell. Sorn scanned the room to see if there were any other tables, but sees that there are none. Therefore saying no was not an option. "Go ahead." He looked at their food, not recognizing some of the food. Wafles covered in some sort of thick syrup and an unfamiliar fruit. This was likely native to Earth, but then with humans it was hard to know. In the end, it appeared that it was only proper to start with introcutions. "I don't belive that we have met before. I am Liutenant Sorn, station quartermaster."

Wheatley sat down and cut off a piece of the waffle, cheerfully introducing himself before taking a bite and placing his fork down again, remembering the no handshake thing as he neatly put his hands over the table. "Wheatley Pendleton, engineer! It's quite a pleasure to meet you, mate." He grinned goofily, just emanating golden retriever vibes as he tilted his head to the side ever so slightly.

Sorn watched the engineer and was curious about their energy. They seemed to be extremely excited about something, illogically so. The quartermaster thought that they had just finished a shift, but then they seemed to not be fatigued. While many humans were different from each other, this Pendelton still appeared to be an outlier. Almost the opposite of a vulcan who followed the teaching of Surak. "A pleasure. Did you just receive good news lieutenant?"

Lieutenant Wheatley Pendleton | ENG BOT 11-Oct-23 10:35 PM
"Nope! I'm just happy I finished my shift well. It's a good day, after all! And besides, I got waffles! Marvelous invention, absolutely delicious. Kudos to whoever invented them." He proudly motioned to his plate, beaming with joy in a way characteristic to him, but unfamiliar to everyone else. "And I recently did receive some good news, yes! I've been promoted to Lieutenant! It's baffling still, me? Lieutenant? I wouldn't have dreamt of that in a thousand years!.... Well, in a thousand years I'd probably be dead, hence no dreams, but- Oh forget about that, I'm a lieutenant!" Someone's happy!
Avatar
Lieutenant Sorn | OPS BOT 12-Oct-23 03:12 AM
Sorn nodded along, not particularly understanding the excitement. It was only logical that one would receive a promotion after enough time had occurred. Most who had served for a certain amount of years had a certain rank. This was simply how Starfleet and almost all other similar organizations operated. He did not want to disappoint the newly promoted officer, so Sorn did not share this view. The engineer did appear to be somewhat young for a lieutenant however, so that was likely out of the ordinary. Human age was somewhat difficult for Sorn to gauge, but they appeared to be young. Their personality could also could have contribtuted to this however. "Congratulations on your promotion." (edited)

"Thank you very much!" He thanked the fellow officer, taking another bite of his waffle as he attempted to make some more small talk. "So. Quartermaster, huh? How's that like? Must be an exciting position!" Unfortunately, Wheatley didn't exactly know how to talk to Vulcans due to his outgoing way of being, so he tried to mimic the stoic, quiet side most of the time... And failed miserably most of the time.

Lieutenant Sorn | OPS BOT 13-Oct-23 03:55 AM
Sorn paused for a moment, trying to understand why the human was calling the position of quartermaster interesting. The average human would not find his role particulalry worth noting, and someone like Wheatley would do poorly as a quartermaster. The role was good for those who enjoyed order and problem solving, but it was monotonous. "What it is like? It is a lot of organization and dealing with different requests, and is admittedly somewhat repetetive." He did the best that he could to describe the role to someone like the engineer, but it was hard to relate to them. They were simply the exact oposite of a Vulcan. Sorn followed the ways of Surak and was not guided by emotion, but this engineer seemed to only follow their emotions.
Avatar
Lieutenant Wheatley Pendleton | ENG BOT 13-Oct-23 04:05 AM
"Repetitive is just my thing! Because.... Y'know, I'm an engineer. I keep fixing things up." On the outside he was smiling, but inside he was just facepalming because he fumbled that up majorly. At least the other wouldn't hold that over his head forever like some of his friends, or so he hoped. Wheatley was indeed, very emotionally driven. But he didn't mind that at all! He knew that it made him who he was, and he liked being himself.

Lieutenant Sorn | OPS BOT 13-Oct-23 04:31 AM
Sorn was somewhat surprised by the response, although he did not show it. He wasn’t sure exactly what type of engineer Wheatley was, but it was unlikely that their role was completely repetitive. Realistically no role truly was however. “Engineering and operations are relatively similar. The two branches have only gotten closer together as time has gone after all.” The two groups were even more tied together within the station specifically. The quarters and mess halls were combined after all. Engineering and ops were partners in all ways.

"Of course! Operations, wonderful officers. It's quite fun to hang out with them sometimes!" He put a hand over his chin, smiling a little and raising his eyebrows in mild excitement. "I'm still getting used to the change, too... It's been a long time since I've last been here, I was elsewhere for quite a bit!"

The entire station had recently gone through a major shift, but it sounded like this liuetenant had been reasigned for a bit. Perhaps they had been sent to somewhere else, promoted, and then assigned back to the station? It was likely best to ask about the specifics, or at least that is what Sorn thought. "Where have you been?" Sorn himself had only been assigned to a few random placements, so it was always good to see where others had been. That often determined what their skillsets and viewpoints on my things were after all.

"Station 077! I was helping out due to a shortage of engineers in my field there. My time there was wonderful, but I'm glad to be in good ol' 777 again!" He sighed dreamily, taking another quick forkful off his waffle and lightly adjusting his glasses before continuing to eat.

Sorn was not familiar with Station 077, but it was likely closer to the Federation's more notable planets. Many of the lower number stations were nearer to the action. He would have to look into the station, but now was not the time for that. This was just a chat however, so perhaps it was not best to stick with the logical option. "I cannot say that I am familiar with 077. Where is that and what is it like?"

"Right next to Aldebaran, or Alpha Tauri as others call it. And it was.... chaotic, in a good way at least. Trust me, it was fun and work got done pretty easily, but it was way too much for me! And I'd say I'm pretty resistant to chaos." Spoiler alert, he was not. This man was absolutely not resistant to it.
Avatar
Lieutenant Sorn | OPS BOT 14-Oct-23 04:02 AM
Sorn nodded along, not familiar with the planet that was being mentioned. The name was familiar, but that was about it. The quartermaster was confused by the comment on chaos however, as it did not exactly seem right. "If I may, I have to disagree. From what I have seen of you so far, you seem to be the type who thrives in chaos. You are an engineer after all. I would say that someone like myself, a vulcan quartermaster, would be the one resistant to chaos."

"And I would, but in there it was... Way too much for my liking. And besides, I missed here! With the few people I do know in all of Starfleet, I'm more familiarized with this place than everyone else. There's the lovable Eshen, or Dion as he's been going by, Allan, Aella, all wonderful people whom I've had the pleasure to befriend in the past. Sure, it has been a long while since I've talked to some of them... And I really should try and reconnect. They are all amazing officers and I missed them very much, so I took the first chance I got to come back..." He spoke, not just for the sake of it but by opening up a bit. But after he realized that he did just that, Wheatley rapidly snapped out of it and diverted the topic, "—And that's why I came back! Also, because I just wanted to get out of there, of course."

Sorn definitely understood the concept of familiar surroundings. It was difficult to adapt to a new environment, and it was likely even more difficult for someone like Wheatley. For those who grew strong emotional attachments, leaving a ship or station was likely like leaving a family. Sorn was only familiar with a few of the names, but he trusted that they were all good people. Everyone on the station appeared to be good people so far. "That is very fair. This station has many good officers and offers many unique opportunities." It was clear that Wheatley had been on the station for a while, and therefore knew more than Sorn. While the quartermaster had looked at maps and done some exploring, he still did not know all of the quirks and gems. From his experience however, Sorn knew that engineers normally knew the little things about their placements more than others. He took a moment and thought about how to ask a question on that. "What would you say your favorite part of the station is?"
Avatar
Lieutenant Wheatley Pendleton | ENG BOT 18-Oct-23 01:10 AM
"Most definitely the Jeffries tubes, or the catwalks down in engineering. Those two spaces are often quite nice to hang out in when the shift is over and I'm free to walk around. But in all due honesty, there are so many places across the station I still don't know! I haven't explored everywhere, and I've been here for quite some time." Wheatley answered, quietly wondering to himself how many places he was missing out on by visiting the same old hangout spots, mostly due to routine and the fact he knew those places and therefore couldn't get lost.
Avatar
Lieutenant Sorn | OPS BOT 18-Oct-23 01:54 AM
Sorn saw the irony in a engineer saying that the jefferies tubes were their favorite part of the station. Only engineers ever went crawling through them, and Sorn had never actually ever been in any sort of jefferies tubes since his technical classes in the academy. It did appear that Wheatley had not explored the entire station yet however. That was only logical. "Intriguing. I likely need to explore more myself." The Vulcan still was looking for a private place that he could regularly meditate in other than his quarters. There were the parklands and such, but those were rather public. More exploration was his best chance for finding a spot such as that.

[D] Here for some food was Sakkath! They were not working that day, which gave them more than enough time to spend with their tribble. Sakkath waited in the queue for the replicator dressed in some casual wear. They were dressed in a long maroon coloured thobe with comfortable loafers, typical Vulcan civilian attire. Although there was no desert on the station (outside of the holodecks), that didn't stop them from rocking the tradition Vulcan clothing. On their shoulder, under their very poofy brown hair, was their pet tribble. Just like Sakkath, the tribble had a streak of blonde in its hair and with itself tucked against Sakkath's neck it was easy for one to miss it. Sakkath soon reached the replicator and gave their order of plomeek soup and tall glass of water with kreyla bread. It was a pretty boring meal, but their go-to one. With their tray replicated, they headed towards an open table to sit down.

[D] Sorn had just finished his shift and was now heading to the mess hall to finally eat. He was a Vulcan in his early thirties who was still wearing his yellow duty uniform. He had a PADD in one of his hands that was turned off and just being carried at his side. His short cut brown hair was brushed to the side and his uniform was well kept but other than that Sorn did not particularly stand out. He walked over to the replicator and ordered a plate of Pok tar before looking around the cafeteria. It appeared that all of the tables were filled and he therefore had to eat with someone else. Sorn scanned for a few seconds before noticing a Vulcan eating along near the back. They would likely be better company than most, at least for Sorn. He walked over to their table and then stopped in front of them. "Hello there, mind if I join you?"

Sakkath had only sat down for a few seconds before they heard a voice address them. Heterochromatic eyes looked up at the other Vulcanoid and they gave a consenting nod along with spoken confirmation, "Yes, you may." Out of all the people who could be sitting with them that day, they were glad to have another Vulcan. Not that other species weren't equally capable of being good table mates, but a fellow Vulcan would probably be equally quiet and respectful. One would think. Sakkath suddenly remembered the number of Vulcans they had met or heard about on the station and quickly realised how little species did correlate to culture and attitude. "Jolan tru, I believe we work in the same division," Perhaps not the most Vulcan thing to do-- although they did open with a Romulan greeting, Sakkath was actually quiet sociable and wanted to get to know people. Of course if this stranger would like to have a typical Vulcan meal, that was all good with them. At the very least they could exchange names if that was the case.
Avatar
Lieutenant Sorn | OPS BOT 05-Jan-24 07:06 AM
Sorn sat down and took a few quick bites as he listened to the greeting. He was starting to notice some of the more Romulan parts of Sakkath. It appeared that they were a hybrid. Sorn did not think much of it, one's species only determined so much. It was something worth noting though. He ran through the OPS manifest in his head and could only picture one person who was a Vulcan/Romulan OPS lieutenant. His memory was not perfect but Sorn was confident that he knew who this was. Tonk'peh. I am Lieutenant Sorn. If I remember correctly you are Lieutenant s'Rllaillieu and we are in fact both part of the same division. Apologies if I am wrong on that however." He knew that it was somewhat strange to know other's name but the Quartermaster spent his days looking at inventories and lists. He knew many of the officers names even when he did not know their faces, especially when other details about them were rarer. Sorn's job was to know where everything was and who it was supposed to get to after all.

Lieutenant Sakkath s'Rllaillieu | OPS BOT 05-Jan-24 07:21 AM
Sakkath was surprised the stranger knew their name, although it was not uncommon for people to read the crew roster frequently. When Sakkath was serving the Republic they certainly watched the OPS roster like a T'Liss. "You are correct, I am one of the communications officers on the station," Sakkath found it curious that their Vulcan colleague would choose to address them by their Romulan surname rather than their first name, or maybe it was because surnames were considered more formal than first names? Now looking at Sorn a little more closely as the man settled into his seat, Sakkath gazed into his dark eyes for a few moments. Sakkath's forehead ridges and dyed hair made them look very un-Vulcan like, but aside from those features they seemed to be like any other Surak follower. "And what is your job, Sorn?" Sakkath asked as they reached into their hair to pull out-- T'Kath! The tiny Tribble, and placed it onto their tray while they stirred their soul.

He looked Sakkath up and down, analyzing them. They were a hybrid and clearly did not appear as a stereotypical Vulcan. Sorn had found that most of the Vuclans on the station were not traditionalists. It was very interesting to be surrounded by so many of his own people with different views. Sorn was not sure exactly how to feel about it. "I am one of the station's quartermasters, hence why I recognized you. If my memory is correct I sent an ensign to deliver you something recently. " Sorn watched the tribble move around for a few seconds without saying a word. It was clear that he was following the tribble's every step like a hawk. He had never owned a pet and never understood the allure of needing to own one. The Quartermaster was also somewhat concerned about having a pet in the mess hall although he knew it was likely not an issue. "Do you always carry your pet around with you?"

Lieutenant Sakkath s'Rllaillieu | OPS BOT 06-Jan-24 03:25 AM
Sakkath, although maybe not the most traditional looking Vulcan, was very much a Surak follower. They fiddled with the silver ear ornaments that wrapped around both of their pointy ears as they watched their tribble make its way over to the kreyla bread and start munching. Although definitely a fashion statement, their ear cuffs served an important accessibility function and allowed them to control the amount of ambient noise they heard. Unfortunately, with their hyper sensitive Vulcanoid hearing, every noise was extremely loud to them. "I remember that. Thank you," It was unsurprising that a quartermaster would be familiar with many people within and outside of the department as it was literally his job to fill requests by the crew. As Sakkath got to work sipping their soup, they noticed Sorn eyeing their tribble. T'Kath was a quiet animal and ate the kreyla bread in silence. "Off duty, yes. It was a gift from my former roommate, its name is Tiny Sakkath, or just T'Kath," Sakkath put their spoon down and nudged the tribble. "I gave it that name because the hair pattern is similar to my own," Sakkath explained as they scooped up the tribble and held it next to their face so Sorn could see the blonde streak that both of them sported. "I take it you do not have any pets?" T'Kath hopped down from Sakkath's hand and went back to eating the bread, almot halfway done with it. For such a small creature it did eat a lot.

While Sakkath had their fashion following outfit Sorn just had his standard uniform. He wore very simple clothes during his free time anyway though. Trends were constantly changing and it was illogical to try and stay up to date on such things. Sorn did admittedly have a robe somewhat similar to Sakkath's though. Sorn shook his head, he truly had no interest in pets. They were a lot of work to deal with and inconvenient to have on a station. He was amazed by how many different things pet owners requested to be delivered to their quarters regularly. There were also so many different types of pets that Sorn could not even remember them all. Perhaps one day someone would convince him to try and get one but for now he was very much pet free. "I see the resemblance in the hair, yes. And I do not have any pets. While many of my friends on Vulcan had pets when we were children I never had any interest. They are also rather time consuming." The Quartermaster was normally not a conversationalist and therefore did not know exactly what to say next. He knew that the conversation needed to keep flowing but that was about it. The only thing that Sorn could think of was to ask a simple question about their past. Since Sakkath was a hybrid and appeared to embrace their Vulcan heritage he decided to see whether or not they were raised on Vulcan. "Which world were you raised on?"
Avatar
Lieutenant Sakkath s'Rllaillieu | OPS BOT 06-Jan-24 06:56 AM
"This is true, they can be time consuming," Sakkath stated, thinking about how often their classmates would have to abstain from social events to care for their own pets. On Surak Prime the most common pets were birds and sehlats. The birds native to the colony world were easily domesticated and got along well with children. Sakkath did nothing as their tribble continued eating the bread, it seemed like Sakkath had no intention of eating the kreyla themself, they just had it for T'Kath. They did not seem fazed by any awkwardness, in fact Sakkath was fine with a mostly silent or minimal conversation. They stirred their soup and sipped it quietly and slowly. Just like any Vulcan, they took their time. With their free hand not holding their spoon, they pulled their long curly hair out of the way. As pretty as their lucious locks were, they also made it a hassle to try and eat without getting the food in their hair. "I would say Vulcan," Sakkath was never too sure how to respond with the 'where are you from' question. "I moved around a lot, but I consider myself fully Vulcan raised. My mother was Romulan, but she followed Surak," They explained, thinking that would be the simplest explanation. "And you? I assume Vulcan as well?"
Avatar
Lt. Sorn | OPS BOT 08-Jan-24 04:03 AM
Sorn nodded, glad to see that he had found someone else who was Vucan raised. It was rather interesting that a Romulan followed Surak but he was in no way against it. All species had the ability to find logic if they searched for it. Sorn was not sure whether or not Sakkath was also a follower and decided not to ask. He had found that many Vulcans on the station had moved on from Surrak and joined the more general culture of the Federation. "I was born and raised on Vulcan, yes. My trip to the academy was actually the first time that I went off world. I also continue to adhere to the teachings of Surak and all of the different ceremonies, traditions, and customs that go along with it." He was a very traditional Vulcan in a very nontraditional place. Sorn continued to meditate and practice Suus Manha but he could not deny that he preferred being in Starfleet than on Vulcan. Sorn was a Quartermaster and his job was to maintain order, and there was a lot more disorder within the rest of the galaxy than on Vulcan. "Still I must admit that it is nice to be off world and see more of the galaxy. While one cannot exactly explore the galaxy from here it rather interesting to be at such a crossroads."

Lt. Sakkath s'Rllaillieu | OPS BOT 08-Jan-24 04:17 AM
Sakkath was further unsurprised at Sorn adherance to Surak and participation in the various Vulcan rituals. It was probably obvious by now that Sakkath was much the same, even if not every mannerism and quirk about their appearance made it seem like that. Sakkath put their spoon down and gently pet the back of their tribble as it was finishing up the kreyla. They wondered where did all that food go in such a tiny body, but then again T'Kath had a lot of energy so it was logical it would eat a lot. "The same goes for myself. My parents made sure I got the standard Vulcan education, even on our colony. I am sure you are familiar with reunification; the joining of Romulan and Vulcan peoples. My mother firmly believed in such an ideology," Sakkath's voice was just as monotone as any other Vulcan's, not letting any of their own emotion or opinions on the matter leak through their words. "I liked our proximity to Mol'Rihan. As head of my Romulan house I am tasked with many things. I am still learning, but sometimes I feel as if I am too Vulcan for the task," Sakkath got along well with their Romulan family, but things still didn't feel right. His uncle and conspirators liked to have long and exciting conversations long into the night, they were unafraid to express their dissatisfaction or fatigue, but probably the most jarring was their unfiltered affection for Sakkath. They showered them with words of affirmation nearly every day and it was almost overwhelming. Vulcans showed their love as well, but it was typically in more subtle ways. "Have you been back to Vulcan recently? I have not been back to the planet for a long time, I do miss home often."
Avatar
Lt. Sorn | OPS BOT 08-Jan-24 06:30 PM
Sorn was not sure whether or not Sakkath had been raised on a Vulcan or Romulan colony but could predict that they went to a Vulcan school on a Romulan colony. That was at least the most logical conclusion with this set of facts. He was familiar with the idea of reunification and the ideas that went with it but was not particularly well versed with the subject. The Quartermaster generally avoided politics and stuck with traditional philosophy and Starfleet protocols. "Well then it appears that we were similarly raised, at least when it comes to the Vulcan parts of your upbringing." It was more than understandable that Sakkath missed their home world, most did. Sorn managed to control himself to the point where he did not feel such emotions but that was a rarer feat. This station was quite far from Vulcan space after all and there were few colonies comparitivley. "And I have not visited Vulcan in years, no. I continue to follow all of the rules, do what rites are possible, and practice Suus Manha but that is all that I can do. Occasionally I will also speak with merchants coming from Vulcan or read articles on current events." He was not familiar with the specific planet that Sakkath had mentioned and decided that it was best to ask for a clarification. While Sorn could make an educated guess about what the planet was he wanted to confirm his guess. Perhaps he would want to visit the planet during a future shore leave. "Apologies but I do not believe that I am familiar with Mol'Rihan. Is that a nearby Romulan colony?"

"Indeed we were," Sakkath did not show it on their face, but they felt a little saddened as they looked at Sorn. He seemed to be the perfect Vulcan, adhering to Surak at all times, practicing Suss Manha even. Despite the differences between them and their fellow OPS officer, Sakkath was the one who was kicked out of their Vulcan house. It was illogical, both them and Sorn followed the rules so well. "I do not hear much from Vulcan aside from reading news. I wish I kept up my training in Suus Manha, I found my classes boring in my youth and chose to do ballet instead," Sakkath realised how odd that sounded, but it was true. They were never a fighter, even if Suus Manha did not involve actually hurting people (in classes), they did not feel right doing it. There were some deeper reasons too, but they quickly pushed any other feelings aside. T'Kath was now finished with its bread and rolled back towards Sakkath's hand. "Mol.." Sakkath paused for a moment, a little confused. "New Romulus, as the name is in standard," A light green blush crossed their cheeks to show their embarrassment. They were unaware of this physical display of emotion, but no doubt if they knew they would be even more embarrassed. "I have been trying to use more Rihannsu in my daily life. My mother raised me to be bilingual, but I was given little exposure to the language outside my house as I had mostly lived in Vulcan space or on Vulcan starships," Sakkath sighed and fiddled a little with their ear cuffs, their stoic Vulcan persona breaking for just a moment. "I take it your whole family lives on Vulcan?"
Avatar
Lt. Sorn | OPS BOT 09-Jan-24 01:11 AM
Sorn continued to eat as Sakkath spoke while maintaining his attention. He concluded that this New Romulus was likely very well known and a major colony for the Romulans. At the very least it was clearly known by many around the station. This lack of information did not phase him though. "Ah, my apologies. I have had no difficulties memorizing the layout of the station and the cargo bays but galactic geography continues to evade me." The Quartermaster paused for a moment before nodding. He tried to think of family members that were currently not on Vulcan but ended up curtly nodding in response to Sakkath's question. Luckily for him his family had supported his joining of Starfleet. Sorn was raised by two mechanics with respect for everyone who wore the Starlfeet uniform. Perhaps they would have had an issue with their son enlisting but that had never been brought up. In the end Sorn was on this starbase and the rest of his family was back home. "And all of my family is on Vulcan, yes. I have relatives at the science academy, the Temple of Amonak, and elsewhere on the planet. My parents are mechanics in ShiKahr. " The point that Sakkath was loosing their native lounge was somewhat confusing to Sorn (although he maintained his stoic expression). They were a communications officer after all and therefore spoke languages professionally. While the universal translator was highly effective and there were separate science branch language experts Sorn had always assumed that comms officers spoke multiple languaes. "As a communications officer how many languages are you required to know?"

"It is the new homeworld of the Romulan Republic. Compared to Qo'noS, it is heavily underdeveloped, but with the influx of tourism and Proconsul D'Tan, new cities and infrastructure are being built," Sakkath said as if they were a tour guide trying to sell a trip to Mol'Rihan. It was a beautiful planet, a great place to visit and a lot more open than Romulus ever was. It was their new home now, but it still didn't feel like such. T'Kath was ever so in tune with Sakkath's emotions and the little fluff ball quickly crawled on top of Sakkath's hand and up their arm. Sakkath seemed not to notice this or at least was not reacting to it. "It sounds like your family is very accomplished, they must be proud of you," Sorn's family was similar to many other Vulcan families. They all seemed to have respectable jobs and stable lives on the planet, quite the opposite of Sakkath's. "None, actually," Sakkath reached up and pushed some of their hair from their face and gently patting T'Kath on the top of its furry body. "Communications is a much less linguistic focused job and more on tech," They explained as they rested their hands on the table. "I am also proficient in Standard and French as I attended Starfleet Academy in France, I also took Klingon at the Academy, but my proficiency in the language does not go beyond a simple conversation," Sakkath told Sorn, wondering if he spoke any languages besides Vulcan and maybe Standard. "What is more valuable is one's ability to tune frequencies and troubleshoot in case of interference or unstable connections. I would think you would need more languages in a job like yours since you speak with so many different members of the crew, but I take it you mainly speak Vulcan and Standard?"

Sorn paused for a moment with a blank face. He was somewhat embarrassed about forgetting about such a major world although he managed to hide it. Perhaps he needed to brush up on his knowledge on events outside of Earth, Vulcan, and the starbase. "Oh, of course. I am admittedly not as well versed as I would likely to be about powers outside of the Federation but I am surprised that I forgot about the relocation of the Romulan capital." Being a Starfleet quartermaster was not exactly a traditional Vulcan parent's dream for a child but Sorn's parents had been more accepting of more unique impressions. There were still some family members who saw this as little than time for Sorn to learn new skills before doing some logistical role on Vulcan but he did not particularly care. "Many members of my family are rather accomplished, yes. Some where hesitant about my joining of Starfleet but all respected my decision and are now accepting of it." He nodded as he took in the information. Sorn was in the same department as the comms officers after all and therefore would benefit from learning about their profession. It was also likely that he would need to expand his collaboration with them if he ever wanted to also serve in the capacity as a logistics officer as well. Sorn also beloved that it was only logical for all Starfleet personnel to be at least familair with the duties of their counterparts. "And I suppose that is logical. In a galaxy with universal translators the Federation likely needs many who can use them and a few xenolinguists for when they are not effective. I myself only speak Standard, Vulcan, and a few coding languages if you count those."

"It is alright, I feel like there is little news out of Romulan space as of late," Sakkath was acutely aware of their family's activites on the planet (but to be honest it was a bunch of nothing), but they in no way assumed anyone else would be familiar with it. Especially not a Vulcan quartermaster who didn't seem to have many thoughts on his genetic cousin species. Fair, though, Romulans were tiring and had Sakkath been fully Vulcan they would probably not have much interest in their happenings. "I think joining Starfleet is a big honour. My parents were.. Hm, not very supportive of me, but not because of my choice to join Starfleet," Now that Sakkath thoughht about it, their parents were not supportive, but what of their biological father? Sulak, they hadn't spoken to him since his divorce from their mother and even when their biological parents were together, Sakkath was barely a fully sentient being at the time. "Coding languages are languages, but in a different context," Sakkath stated, also being familiar with a number of coding languages, but it was required of all OPS personnel. They sipped the rest of their soup and then sipped their water. They offered some of the water to the tribble on their shoulder and of course, T'Kath was eager to drink the rest of the glass. "Today is my day off, I will be taking T'Kath to see its new friend for a playdate. What will you do after this?" Sakkath asked as they gathered their utensils on their plate so they could leave.

Sorn was able to deduce that Sakkath's parents had an issue with the specific career that they had chosen. Most Vulcans wanted to see their children as scientists, doctors, or maybe engineers. The OPS department was not even an option for the majority of Vulcans who followed their parents wishes. Most people did not appreciate those who worked in the background to make everything run. Sorn was proud of being part of OPS still though, at least in his own way. Coding languages were something that Sorn found himself using extremely rarely. Most of his days were spent updating manifests and moving things to and from cargo bays. Part of his OPS training had been basic coding and repairs though and he was more than okay with that. Sorn appreciated the cross training that all officers got. "Fair enough." He had the same schedule every day and planned on sticking to it. Therefore his next action would be to go prepare to work out and exercise. While Sorn was just a quartermaster he still regularly practiced martial arts and stayed in shape. "After this I will be heading to my quarters to change and then the sports hall to exercise. Well I do believe that it is time for us both to leave, goodbye Lieutenant."
