Nestled in a far corner of the festival grounds were some of the station’s most well known and loved food carts. Any type of food one could want could be found but with a special emphasis on Khitomer Alliance cuisines. So take your pick from gagh to jumbo mollusk on a stick! There were also plenty of Federation food carts with your traditional fair food - some of which included funnel cakes, fresh squeezed lemonade, and harvest festival moon cakes! 🥮 The scents of delicious foods filled the air and people milled about, happily munching on their favorites!

Ato was at the food carts. The man's hunger could rarely be sated. It had been kind of weird after a Particular Away Mission but he was mostly fine now. Things were awkward in some areas of his life but generally, he was ok. So, snacks. Snacks were the way to his heart. Snacks and adrenaline. He had gotten here, seen the massive crowd, then immediately beelined to the deep fried jumja stick cart. He needed a deep fried jumja stick. That sounded AWESOME.

Nikiyta was here! Dressed for fall! Denim everything. Denim jeans, denim jacket, maybe not denim underwear though. He queued up for the jumbo mollusk on a stick with plans to investigate the funnel cakes later. Once the snack was acquired, he went to grab the sriracha sauce to pour over the entire treat.

Allan hadn't necessarily dragged himself here - that was a bit dramatic of wording. He'd simply been recommended by nearly everyone in his life to go, even just to walk around and experience an environment with people all around. Even if he didn't end up talking to many people, it was still worth it, they said. And then, of course, Mephistopheles offered to go with him, and he finally agreed. He was wearing some black jeans, and a red knit sweater that was a little too big for him. And while he had come here with the Captain, and been walking around with him for quite a while - maybe an hour or so, honestly - he eventually decided he should go interact with someone on his own, or at least try to. So, he went to the food carts, something that could be a very brief and temporary interaction. Something that had an easy protocol to follow. You asked politely for the food. You received it. You thanked them. It was simple. And he did that! Now, he had a plate of funnel cake in his hands. Great success.

After her try on the darts, Garcia had turned to where Tarsek still stood with the lieutenant. Seeing them both in conversation, she though better to leave them for the time being and focus on other parts of the festival. She would have plenty of time to enjoy it with Tarsek’s company later and it would be good to map out everything before trying to convince the Vulcan on joining any activity. So now she was in the food carts area, a cup of lemonade in hand and a unicorn keychain dangling from her belt. She couldn’t aim a phaser to save her life, but she could throw stuff with terrifying accuracy. While deciding what to try first she ended up almost bumping on someone. “Oh sorry, I wasn’t loo… chief?” She smiled immediately recognizing the man. “So good to see you around!”

Ato had his deep fried jumja stick, which he was munching on with extreme care. He did not want to drop a single piece. He had just taken a bite and began walking in the direction of a different food cart when he noticed someone decked out in all denim, which he thought was fun, appropriate, and honestly a cute fit. “Hey,” he said, approaching the other person from behind. “I don’t know your name but your outfit is really cool.” He smiled, waiting for them to turn around, and took another bite of his food.

Booted footfalls were for the most part the only thing that declared the fact that someone else approached the carts. That someone being Vara'l, Telim perched securely on his shoulders, anxious but comforted by his adoptive father's presence. Both silent bar the occasionally signed query made by a young hand dropped into Vara'ls peripheral vision and a response signed with a certain care. At the instance of the person who'd hitched a ride on his shoulders and Elohae, who'd headed to the petting zoo, Vara'l had elected to not just wear his uniform to this. Or well.. been pressed to not just do so, so he'd slipped on a nice plain green shirt he'd replicated and a jacket with a simple pattern around the cuffs and collar. He'd done that and woven in his vine hair jewellery that glittered through his hair, though he'd decided against beard jewellery as that seemed a bit much. He wasn't sure why he'd elected to wear it, in all honesty but.. Allan had said he liked it so well. It seemed that someone with far more fashion sense than him at least liked the thing. So.. why not wear something? So here he was as he idly tapped his son's leg with a finger of the steadying hand that hovered near it to keep him from falling off. Tapped it then signed with the other. "What do you want, Telim, lots of interesting options here."

Telim looked around him at his fathers question, headphones snuggly settled on his head as he considered. Considered in silence then before he tapped his fathers head, careful to avoid the jewellery, a decision arrived at. "That there?" He'd then signed as he pointed to the harvest moon cakes stall. "Cake!" He always liked cake. He was allowed to, he was a kid after all, so there.

Allan pretty much jumped when someone bumped into him. He initially took a few steps back. Maybe he was standing in the way. Was there a certain place he was supposed to stand? No, it was actually this person who explained they weren't look- oh, it was Garcia. Something in him actually calmed a little when he realized that. He'd expected her to be here, after all: he'd literally messaged her mentioning it. "Garcia," he said simply, nodding as a greeting, "it's good to see you, too. Guess this is the kind of party that interests you, too?"
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Beatriz Garcia Morais | ENG BOT 18-Oct-25 06:23 PM
She nodded. “Any party is a party! Besides, it was ridiculously easy to convince Tarsek into coming to a harvesting party. He is probably around comparing the place to his home.” She sipped a bit of her lemonade. Allan noticed she wore a simple green dress, a leather belt, brown jacket and boots. She seemed to embrace the fall spirit fully, the unicorn dangling from her belt being the only source of bright colors.

Vara'l smiled up at his son and started over toward the Harvest moon cakes. Did so as he signed. "Cake it is!" Booted feet smoothly taking the duo over before he slowed to a stop in the queue. Focused primarily on his son, Vara'l failed to notice any familiar faces in the crowd. Failed so utterly that Telim tapped him on the head and pointed Allan out for him. Vara'l turning as he smiled up at Telim then looked to Allan and briefly but carefully waved at them in greeting. He then turned his focus back to the queue then as he stood in the queue. Once at the front, he ordered a harvest moon cake for his son as had been requested and ordered one for himself for later. He always happened to be a tad paranoid about eating while he had someone on his shoulders. With food acquired and Telim eating, his eyes fixed upon Allan and the person with them again. After a moments consideration, he headed over. Once close enough he smiled and said. "Jolan tru." As he slowed to a stop near them after his greeting.

With his cake acquired, Telim carefully proceeded to set about the demolishing of the cake as he started to eat. As he ate, one hand on his dads head even though he felt the fact Vara'l happened to have him securely held, the kid attempted to not get too many crumbs in his adoptive dads hair. When Vara'l moved close to two other adults, Telim meakly smiled at them both. Did so before he raised his non-cake holding hand and waved!

Allan nodded as if Garcia was giving expert wisdom. "Where's his home?" He asked after he finished another bite of funnel cake. Holy shit, it was good. It reminded him of baseball games he went to as a teenager back up in Boston. He then noticed the very tall child - oh, no, that was just a normal height child, on his father's shoulders - pointing at him, and was a little confused before he recognized said child. "Hello," he said, a little flat, and he was very notably not a man who said 'hello' like that, "are you, um... enjoying the cake? I haven't tried that one yet."

”Oh! Commander tr’Hara, right? Im Garcia, well Lieutenant Commander Garcia. And hey you too!” She waved towards the kid on Vara’l’s shoulders. “Well Tarsek is from Vulcan, but he is part of one of the clans that tend to the region of Xial.” She explained to Allan. “Those clans are very big and each manages several hydrofarming territories. He is essentially a farm boy!”

Lt. Allan Allen | ENG BOT 19-Oct-25 03:05 AM
"Xial, okay," Allan nodded, he actually was surprised that he remembered where that was. He was already shit at Earth geography, and was even more shit at Vulcan geography - but it seemed he knew that, at least. "We have some pretty neat hydroponics going on in the gardens here, if he hasn't taken a look already. Does that... so you said he is here?" He asked, perhaps the slightest tinge of nervousness in his voice towards the end of his question.

"Oh, thanks! I went for the denim on denim look! I heard it's all the rage, not that I know what denim looks like. I feels pretty sturdy though," Nikiyta spoke through his little voice machine, his antennae bowing towards the other. "I'm blind so I can't comment on your outfit but I smell something very tasty, what did you get?"

Lt. Ato Th'zhaloth | MED BOT 19-Oct-25 03:26 AM
Nikiyta turned around and Ato was first surprised and then excited! Another Vulcanoid-Andorian? Well, Aenar, probably, since his skin was paler and he mentioned being blind. But! This was not a common occurence for him. "H-hey, yeah, denim is cool. It looks... uh, textured? And blue. Usually blue, anyway." He chuckled. "Like me. Also, I got a deep fried jumja stick. I don't know why Terrans deep fry so much stuff but this vendor got the idea to deep fry a jumja stick and it's amazing. You should get one. Also it's ridiculously huge and probably too much for me to eat all of it but I'm going to try. And then I'm probably going to get something else because this is a festival and what's better than festival food? Nothing." He laughed. "I'm Ato, by the way."

Nikiyta heard the familiar voices of his friend Allan not too far from where he was standing, but his friend was speaking with a few others he didn't recognise. It was nice to know he was in familiar company! "Deep fried jumja stick, but isn't it already fried? So you fry it again?" Nikiyta was trying to wrap his head around why someone would deep fry something twice. He definitely wouldn't be able to eat a whole one of what Ato said was true about their size. "I grew up on earth but we didn't fry things so much, at least, not in Siberia," He said with a little laugh. "Hi Ato, I'm Nikiyta. Nikiyta Shylelovich th'Ashaohlek, very long name," He somehow managed to get out the weird tongue twister of an Aenar surname out.

"Jumja sticks are already fried? I'm eating a double fried jumja stick? Wow." Ato laughed. "Well, I don't eat a lot of fried foods in general so I'm indulging a little bit. Like I said, so much random and kind of weird sounding but good food to try." He nodded thoughtfully as Niki spoke. "Oh, Siberia. Cold place, I've heard. Nice to meet you Nikiyta Shylelovich th'Ashaohlek. My name is long too - Ato Th'zhaloth tr'Envaris." He struggled more with pronouncing his Romulan name than his Andorian one. "My mom and dad raised me on a Federation starbase but I've actually spent a lot of time on Andoria too."

"Yeah, very cold. My parents were scientists, all loved the cold. There's a whole science centre up in Siberia. Not much else in my town, but I liked to pretend I was living in some exclusive club," Nikiyta stated, remembering how much he had wished they got more visitors when he was growing up. It was a nice little community, but not very interesting to tourists who couldn't even walk around freely anyway due to many areas being restricted to scientists. "I spent some time on Andoria! I'm here as an exchange officer from the Imperial Guard, actually -- and wow what are the odds, I'm also part Romulan, my house is s'Rylov, but I don't really identify with the name," Because Valleka was a murderer and Nikiyta felt weird saying he was a Rylov. "Do you work here too?"

Lt. Allan Allen | ENG BOT 19-Oct-25 04:00 AM
"Huh?" Allan looked confused as Garcia asked him the question, though he didn't answer it for a moment, thinking it through in his head. "I'm... functioning," he said carefully, looking down at the ground, and then he took in a breath. Fuck. He thought he could do this. He could, right? He could. He ate a piece of funnel cake. Maybe that'd help. "It's, um. Adequate. The, uh - me. The funnel cake's really good."

"Ooh, what kind of scientists? What do they study? My mom is in Starfleet, though she's considering retiring. And my dad is a trader. Living in an exclusive club sounds like it could be fun," he said with a chuckle. "I'm not sure I've ever been IN an exclusive club, though. What is that even like? Are there spas? I want to go to experience like, a lavish spa day but I think I could just do that here at the uh, spa place. Or in a holodeck maybe." He considered finding a spa holo program for a moment before reminding himself he was in an active conversation and needed to pay attention. "Hm, yeah honestly I have no idea about anything about my Romulan family. My dad refuses to talk about it much and, well, that's just a weird subject right now." He grimaced. "But! Yes. I work here on 777 - I'm a doctor, an ER doctor specifically. What division are you in? Man, the Imperial Guard. The uniforms are cooler," he said, laughing.

"Microbiology, there are a lot of organisms that can survive in extreme cold environments," Nikiyta explained as best he could, although he was not a scientist so he had very little to say in terms of details. He just knew that he was not allowed into the labs or any of the areas where experiments were being conducted unless it was for a maintenance call. "No spas, sadly. Lots of labs with very heavy doors or roped off areas though," He commented with a little laugh. "Yeah I get it, I found out my cousin? Did some crazy murder and senate scandal, no idea about the details," He said, mentioning Valleka specifically. "I'm a sanitation engineer, yeahh the Imperial Guard has nice uniforms," He took a few bites of mollusk. "Lots of cool peeps in engineering, overall a solid division," One cool thing about having a device that produced a voice for him is he could eat and talk.

“Ooh, microbiology is so fascinating. That was one of my favorite series of courses I had to take in medical school. You learn so much about tiny organisms that can wreak havoc on your body. But also, like, a bunch of other stuff too. Also, yeah, it’s really wild how strong and resilient some of those organisms can be. Cool stuff.” Doctors were scientists after all, so it made sense that Ato was a nerd for that kinda stuff. “Aw dang, that doesn’t sound as relaxing.” He chuckled. “Oh that’s… yeah. You know I’m really beginning to wonder what’s up with that. The whole Romulans do murder thing that always felt kind of spacist to me is also like. Man why is there so much murder. I’m sorry to hear that, though. It’s so..” Well, there weren’t really good words for it so Ato just trailed off. “Ooh, thank you for your service. We couldn’t survive without folks like you.” His mouth formed into a big grin and he decided to pause and take another bite of his deep fried jumja stick. It was so tasty.

"that makes sense a doctor would know about microbiology. It's beyond my realm of expertise, I just make good plumbing and waste management systems," Nikiyta responded to the comment about microbiology. "I think it's less about being Romulan and more about my family just... Being weird," Nikiyta had met so many nice Romulans, he was pretty sure it was just a Rylov thing. Well, a Rylov and maybe some other houses. "Of course. Gotta make sure things don't end up in the shitter, literally," He said as he chomped at the jumbo mollusk. I was thinking of getting one of those funnel cakes," *Nikiyta's antennae bowed towards Allan who was enjoying one at that moment. "Would you wanna share with me?"

”Heh, talked like a Vulcan there chief.” She gave Allan a soft smile. “I’m actually happy both of you are here. Tarsek might not look like it… cause he went back to work earlier and for his massive ‘poker face’, but he is not unaffected. It is why I wanted him to come. You don’t have to talk if you are not ready…” She couldn’t begin to imagine what the relationship between all the officers that were abducted was like. “I’m sure he would respect it.” She looked at the plate he held with the cake. “It does look good. I never had funnel cake though so I wouldn’t be a reliable judge!”

Vara'ls expression coloured with concern at how Allan responded to him. Concern that marred the smile he directed at Garcia then when they proceeded to introduce themselves. "It's very good to meet you, Lieutenant Commander you're indeed correct, the young man on my shoulders is Telim tr'Hara." He'd then looked to Allan then once more as the Lieutenant proceeded to speak some more. Watched him as his concern betrayed itself once more. Listened as they spoke to Garcia and noted what they noted, spotted differences in how they spoke. Oh he wasn't worried about all they said about spacism and the like, his son had his headphones on so well, he was reasonably shielded from anything he might not have wanted them to hear. He'd have stated something further, offered something but, the conversation had somewhat passed him by. Partly as he'd checked on Telim for a moment so well, he looked to the funnel cake and raised a eyebrow. "..It looks quite intriguing, funnel cake."

Telim happily waved at Garcia and Allan when they said hello. With everything that happened he was mostly silent at the moment cause he'd been well. Badly shaken up by what had happened, though he struggled to really put that into words a bit. Something the nice counsellor person had understood, though part of him wished he knew better how to describe how what he'd witnessed when Elohae had been abducted had hurt. How it happened to hurt that Elohae hurt, though the adult attempted to hide it from him whenever they were together. He wished he could just like... kick that hurt in the knees and call it a butthead and make it go away. He hated that he couldn't. "Hello Miss commander Garcia!" Telim had signed in SSL then before he realized he should probably speak and softly stated. "Heya.." As he watched the situation more for a moment he just started to look down to his funnel cake as he murmured. "..Why can't the doctor's heal inner ouches quick too."

Garcia, for all her charms, unfortunately never learned SSL pass the point of saying “hello” and “my name is Garcia, I don’t sign, sorry”. It was definitely something she should have learned a while back and actually tried to, but for her it had been very hard to coordinate her hands and her mind to say what she wished to say. Knowing there were some officers and civilians here that used it, she decided to give it another shot. The woman noted the signs, seeing that the number did not correspond to what Telim had shyly said. She did what she could, offering the phrase mentioned above. “Commander, can your son…. Sorry, I just assumed he is your son, is he? Well, can Telim hear me? I am afraid I do not know SSL…” She had indicators that Telim probably did hear, but she would not make assumptions and deafness could come in different levels.

'Talked like a Vulcan there'. Wow. It wasn't like Allan wasn't aware of it - it was partly intentional, after all, but... it still surprised him a little when people pointed it out. Illogical, really. "Yeah, maybe," was what he said in response to her words about Tarsek, though. He was very unsure about it. At the same time, he knew that he had to talk to Tarsek, professionally, eventually. About whether or not to even go back to work at all after this mess. He was glad that she redirected to the funnel cake as well. "Well, it's - I mean, you can have some, it's just, I think, fried cake? With powdered sugar on top." He held the plate out to her in case she did in fact want to take some. He then wordlessly offered some to Vara'l when he too commented on the funnel cake.

Varal looked up at Telim, pained at what they said but unsure what he could say to that, then looked to Garcia. "Those were very good signs." He observed initially before at their question, Vara'l smiled warmly at the commander. "He can hear, but he's also audio-sensitive." Vara'l explained then before he added. "And I understand." Stating that before he added. "He said Hello Miss Commander Garcia." The Romulan translated. With that translation offered, Vara'l explained. "..Telims not feeling one hundred percent right now, he was with Elohae tr'Kymyra my friend and his babysitter." The Romulan paused then as he looked up at his son, smiled a bit at them then looked to Garcia. "..When we had recent...unwelcome guests upon the station so he's not feeling too verbal." Paused then. "Telim can hear, when my implants are active I can hear reasonably well and my friend Elohae if you meet him, is deaf." When Allan then talked about the funnel cake, Vara'l mustered a smile, one filled with concern for the man as he stood there and watched them then. "It looks good, though I'll have to decline, I'm somewhat leery about eating when I'm ah, carrying someone." He sheepishly responded then. "..Fried cake is certainly a interesting concept."

"Yeaah...I said heya, Miss commander Garcia, like dad said." He then looked to Allan and softly asked. "Please could I try some?" Ato simply nodded and continued chewing, listening as Nikiyta spoke. He envied the man's communication device only a little because he was always talking and wished he could both stuff his face and communicate well at the same time. "Yes, yes, good plumbing. Thanks to good folks like you, we are safe from disaster. Man, you know I've heard lots of weird history about what societies were like before they figured out their own plumbing systems and let's just say I'm really pleased I live in a time after plumbing was figured out." He laughed. "Yeah, my family has its own quirks too. It's odd. I guess I can empathize more with my father not wanting to talk about it now but there's stuff I've been asked not to repeat and it's just. A lot sometimes." His eyes were a bit widened with discomfort. It was so much to hold sometimes. "Oh, yeah! I would love to eat a funnel cake. I rarely think to replicate those. They always seem tastier in the context of a fair or something. Let's go!" And Ato moved to follow Niki to the funnel cake cart, not yet realizing he was going to run into a familiar face or two.

”Well yeah, I guess I could try some, thank you chief.” She smiled and accepted a small portion. Fried sweetness. The pinnacle of former unitedstatian cuisine. She blushed slightly at the compliment. “Ah, you don’t have to be polite Commander, I am aware I should have learned actual SSL years ago.” She looked at Telim. “Im just glad you can understand then… and yeah, a lot of people are not feeling 100%… but better times will come. "Well?" Allan asked after she tasted some, tilting his head to the side. He wondered if she liked it, after all, and he shrugged when Vara'l declined to try it. A more well-adjusted Allan would have tried to offer to feed it to him directly, but alas. This was not that Allan, yet. "Yeah, go ahead," he said to Telim when he asked for some, though, reaching up to do so. He wasn't sure how to respond to the child's question, and so... he was glad that Garcia started talking to him about something else. "Don't unicorns have something of a real name they can never share and then also a name they go by with everyone else? Or is that just fairies or something?"

The kid reminded her of little Sergio, not so little now but always little in her heart. “Oh I am not sure… but if they do have a secret name It makes sense I wouldn’t know about it. Initially confused by Garcia's comment, Vara'l mouthed a Oh when he spotted a signed explanation from his son. Did so before he stated. "Alright.. and well, there's no expectation to learn it, we both know it as we prefer to use SSL at home and well, when I'm wanting to wind down a bit I turn my 'ears' right down or as far off as they'll go." He paused then before he elaborated. "They come back on if yellow or red alert is called." He then carefully leant down with his sone still on his shoulders as he allowed the lad to get at the funnel cake. When Telim asked his question Vara'l winced slightly, looked to Allan then looked to Garcia as she spoke. Wondered how to explain things to Telim with all that had happened. Decided upon a signed SSL explaination. "They...also.. encountered people, like you and Elohae did, Telim." He explained then. He knew full well that if he'd not explained it now, Telim might have stewed on it. Hoped that what had been previously discussed and the counsellor's input would see to it that Telim processed this okay. Oh he wished the lad knew less about the Tal Shiar but, even though it'd been his younger years, the lad had started life in the Free state. He'd also beheld how that had affected Vara'l too and Mir had attempted to explain that a bit. "You found the bob for your life interesting, didn't you, Telim?" He just asked then after his explanation and then added. "Quite the beautiful Unicorn, that." Smiled at what was then said about Unicorn names. "No idea of such myself, but it's a interesting question." "Hmm, not tried much in the way of fried food then." He hummed at the fried food comment as he watched Telim take a bit of cake. "Hugo sounds good."

Telim acquired a bit of the funnel cake that was offered. Did so as his father leant down and the other reached up, grabbed a small bit and smiled. "..Thank you." When Allen then avoided his question cause Miss Garcia spoke, Telim just watched Allan for a moment. Watched them, deeply concerned before he looked to Garcia. As he looked to Garcia, he noted his fathers sign in his peripheral vision while he munched funnel cake. Did so as his guts twisted a bit with sadness. He knew a little of what happened, he was just a kid but kids talked and he noted what some adults occasionally said. Not that they'd ended up saying it when they realised he was in earshot but he knew one thing. The people who hounded his nightmares of his birth father being snatched had come again. His birth father, his dad had never returned but Elohae and others had returned. A small part of him cried that that wasn't fair but the larger part of him declared that that small part was a butt head. Wished it knew, he knew how to talk about what he'd beheld before Elohae had ordered him to run. Wished that but attempted to be distracted by what Garcia did, mustered a smile at the unicorn again. Did so even as he decided he'd talk about this with the counsellor man again. "Yeah! Hugo sounds fun!" Telim mustered then added. "And yeah.. bob for your life sounds fun." He paused then. "So does the petting zoo thing.."

"There are many things that could go wrong," Allan pointed out, objectively - but it was true. "For example, if it was fried for too long, it'd be a little burnt, and therefore not as good. I'm glad you like it, though." He said, and attempted a smile. It wasn't a very good one, but it was an attempt nonetheless. He listened to Telim declare his approval of the name, then nodded in agreement. "I also like that name," he said, "and the petting zoo does sound nice. I've heard they have a lot of the smaller animals there - like, uh- sorry, the... the babies, I think."

”Oh they have babies?! I have to check it out later, definitely!” She seemed very excited about the prospect of seeing the baby animals.

"I might check it out soon, actually," partly because interacting with animals seemed a bit easier than people at the moment, but he did look from Garcia to Telim when he said that, in case the younger who had also expressed interest wanted to tag along, too. "Like... right after I finish the funnel cake soon."

She smiled. That was about as direct as Allan would have been with an invitation at the moment, and she knew that. She knew that the moment she saw him, different from her first day at work. Sure, he had had that bit of youthful nervousness then, but still excited and open. Now, he had retracted visibly, and she couldn’t blame him. “Sounds like a plan!”

She'd be right. Allan gave Garcia a solid nod. "It does," he said, and that was all before he went over to the petting zoo!

The Romulan looked thoughtful as Allan pointed out what they pointed out. "Hmm, I shall have to give it a try and well." He paused then, attempted a smile but found it marred by his concern for Allan, the smile they attempted one that drew . "That and ah make sure I don't burn anything." When the talk then turned to talk of the petting zoo, Vara'l smiled a bit. "I like the sound of that, shall we head over to the petting zoo Telim?" He'd responded then.

"Yeah!" Telim responded warmly as he grinned down at his father and the others present. "Can we can we?" When his father nodded and they started off in that direction, Telim issued a declaration of. "Yay!" As well what else was there to be said! Petting zoos sounded fun!

She followed right behind them, finishing her lemonade.
