In the middle of the area with the carnival games was a big tent with moody lighting. The sounds of popular Klingon Opera and also Klingon Acid Punk could be heard emanating from the area. Situated in the very center of the tent was a square with a short gated perimeter and in the very center of THAT was a... mechanical targ! A techo targ, if you will. The Targ looked fierce! Its tusks were pointy, its face had been sculpted into a snarl, and it even had sound effects! Lots of scary murderous pig-like noises. It looked as if it had been caught in mid gallop. And it was shiny. A Klingon woman decked out in hand made Klingon armor that looked old and leathery and beautiful with a cape of red and spiky boots was s tanding at the corner of her tent watching as people gazed at the targ. Whenever anyone lingered for more than a few seconds she would grin mischievously and ask, "How would you like to try your hand at riding my techno targ? If you can last long enough, you'll win a special prize..."

Edgar wandered in, eyeing the mechanical creature with curiosity, and a bit of stupid intrigue. It couldn’t be too different from those mechanical bulls on earth, could it? He lingered at the door, attention caught at the idea of a prize. He was… typically good at not falling off of things, at least. Using that to his advantage to win a prize was right up his alley.

The woman who could only be assumed to be the targ operator cackled, locking eyes with the young man. "You there!" She said, pointing a taunting finger at him. "You are studying my targ. Do you dare give it a shot? Hm?" She laughed again and gestured to the targ with a wide sweeping motion. "If you think you are brave enough, that is." Her eyes narrowed but she was still grinning, huge and toothy smile.

Klingons weren't well known for making things easy or comfortable. After some inspection, Ed would realize he just had to grab the mechanical targ's neck and throw a leg over. Whether he does it gracefully or not is up to you, dear writer. "What are you waiting for?" The Klingon woman asked. "Mount the targ and ready yourself!"

She made a very mischievious smile and pressed a button. The targ noises got louder, and it let out a screeching howl and began to move. 🎲4

The next person doomed to fall seemed to not be very far, as Tarsek approached the tent just in time to see the ensign get launched several meters away from the mechanical beast. Targ ridding… it did look similar to the old videos Garcia had shown him of Earth cowboys and farmers, ridding agitated horses or even bulls in some occasions.

The Klingon woman had spent a few minutes making sure the targ was functional and not a danger to its riders or others. Once she was satisfied, she turned and scanned the crowd. There were a few people watching and laughing, some folks milling about, and then her eyes landed on Tarsek. "You!" She pointed a finger at him, like she had at Ed. "Do you wish to test your riding skills?"

He walked closer, inspecting the technological replica of the animal. “I might take the chance.” Tarsek approached her with a firm posture. Klingons did not respect hesitation. “Is this challenge practiced today with real animals as well?” He knew some cultures still did, and wondered if Klingons actually used the targs for such.

“I believe you should. Though I am curious about your logical reasoning.” She raised a thoughtful eyebrow. “In some communities it is an enduring practice. It certainly is not representative of all of Klingon society. But I find it a worthy endeavor. One of many to measure the strength and courage of individuals I meet.” She seemed to like Tarsek.

She grunted and nodded. “Krona, daughter of Marna, of house Korgan.” A slight bow. “Well well well, a diplomat. And a commander at that. You must be very diligent.” She laughed, again. This woman laughed a lot. “Well, smooth talking won’t help you stay on the targ. What say you? Are you ready to get some practical knowledge as you say, Tarsek of house V’hgai?”

”Indeed, Krona of House Korgan.” Tarsek undid the satchel that held his robe closed and placed it on a fence close to them. It would be extremely impractical to attempt to ride with it. Underneath, he wore a simple black shirt and trousers. He moved towards the steel beast now, analyzing the construct. No saddle, nothing to hold yourself to. He placed both hands on its back before jumping with both legs and swinging his right one, favored due to the lack of injury, in a smooth motion. Due to his height and strength, it was not hard to get on. Now the real challenge would be to not get off. (edited)

So the rule was usually “meet or beat” the required difficulty class, and because Tarsek doesn’t technically have a negative modifier, there’s not really a way for him to get thrown off. And therefore, due to the fact that the dice gods have willed this techno targ to be pretty dang janky, he stays on. Elohae slipped into the targ tent then, curious as he entered into the space and looked around, his eyes resting briefly on Commander V'hgai before they fixed on the mechanical targ. He lacked his earpieces at the moment, safely secured in their armoured box in a pocket next to his heart. He'd decided to come along in a simple white vest with a blue long sleeved overshirt on. Oh he knew Vara'l had elected to come looking all fashionable, he'd be one of the ones who convinced them to do so but well. He.. had really just elected to throw something on. As he'd then reached to his PADD with one hand once fully inside, itching to ask questions about what happened to be here, his free hand reached for the armoured ear piece case. Did so before he stopped briefly, remembered what had been done to him, though paled in comparison to what could have been done. How his earpieces had been subverted as they had along with his implants. Remembered also what his counsellor had stated. He then retrieved the box and opened it. Once he retrieved the earpieces, he settled them into place on his ears and then engaged them. With a inhaled breath then exhaled slowly, Elohae pulled out his PADD and moved further into the tent, looked to see who to approach to ask about the weird Targ

Initially, he frowned and signed in SSL. "I'm deaf." Confused as to what was meant by riding a targ before his eyes fixed upon it. He then pointed at the targ, confused. "That?" Elohae signed then, curious before he tapped on his PADD and played a mesage. "Hello, do you mean, try to ride on that?"

"It is a Klingon animal. We eat them or keep them as pets. Mine is mechanical. I run this game as an opportunity for people to show their strength and dexterity. The targ will buck while you attempt to stay on. The longer you stay on, the more obvious your honor and the more glory!" She laughed.

"If you're able to use a PADD that'd help or if you wave at me in my view when you want to alert me to something so I can turn to lipread." At the response, he looked to the mechanical targ then to the lady, curiosity peaked. Peaked as he tapped a response on his PADD. "Seems very interesting." He gestured to it as the then tapped on his PADD, pressed play as the PADD asked for him. "Can I have a go?"

She had done this earlier too when she grabbed the PADD, but we're putting it in the description for posterity. Elohae deserves it! Anyway, a big smile appeared on her face. "You may certainly have a go. All you must do is stay on the targ as long as you are able. The longer you stay on, the better you do. When you mount it, I will give you a sign," and she made a Klingon equivalent to the thumbs up. "When I do this, I will wait five seconds for you to ready yourself, and then I will begin the machine. Understood?" She pointed at the gate where Elohae could enter. "If so, your steed awaits." And she walked to the console, expecting Elohae to go forth.

"You are welcome." She said, holding up her PADD so Elohae could see as she approached with a prize in her hands. "For all of your efforts, you have won this." And she handed him a small Targ plushie. "Take your new pet with you and go forth." She smiled and nodded to Elohae. When he took the plush, she walked off and tended to her tent for the remainder of the festival.
