💘 Valentine's Day Dates 💘 / holodeck-4

The mini golf course was a winding map, however, there was a clear and concise path, as well as various signs detailing where to go. The course incorporated various date spots; there was a hole with a ferris wheel you had to get your ball onto in order to proceed, a bridge overlooking a tiny stream, a section made to look like a beach, etc.. with the very final hole being a difficult shot onto a boat, which would float your golf ball through the tunnel of love, complete with carnival lights and red and pink hearts. This is where Mudion and Karavix will get to know each other. (edited)

This wasn't Karavix's usual activity. She wouldn't have thought to sign up to a blind date until she crossed paths with the sign-up, and.. Well. Why not? She needed to do something with herself besides hole up and fiddle with things like a mad scientist/engineer/something. The notification had called for something more casual, and so Karavix had replicated herself a dandelion yellow pair of shorts & a matching polo with a stripe of white down the center. Karavix inclined her head curiously at the map laid out before them, accepting one of two golf clubs the holodeck program had so graciously provided.

Mudd had been at first very hesitant to sign up for the event as he still had feelings over his ex, even though she was dead, yes, but he thought he'd try it out in a way to move on. As Mudd heard what the event was about he was thrilled and overcome with a burst of energy that may or may not have also been because he had just downed a Raktajino on his way here. He was dressed in a pair of brown cargo shorts with a half button up dark blue linnen shirt along with a pair of slippers. He hadn't put much thought into his outfit other than it should be casual and fit for golfing and he had brought along his braces that was now very much visible due to his clothing choice but he didn't mind it since he couldn't properly move without it. Then came the moment Mudd entered the holodeck, he instantly spotted what appeared to be his date seeing that it was the only other person here. "Hello! Pleasure to meet you, I am Mudion Korex- though everyone calls me Mudd, what about you? And ever done this sort of event before like mini golfing?" He said with a bright smile as he approached and picked out the last remaining golf club giving it a few short swings to get a feel for it.

Karavix's expression remained neutral as she perceived her date, following Mudd's move by giving the club a test swing. "Karavix K'mporr. I am an engineer on this starbase," she answered. "In terms of events, I have never participated in blind dating before. I have yet to be romantically involved with anyone." She just wasn't really interested in that sort of thing in the past. This time, curiosity had gotten the best of her, hadn't it. "Golfing is also a first for me. However, I will do my best. I am quite competitive, and would like to think in any other circumstance I am a formidable opponent." Karavix gestured ahead to the first hole, a simple path with the hole at the end. An easy beginning. "If you wish to proceed, I will allow you to go first."

Mudd practically lit up at hearing Karavix was another engineer, what a coincidence he thought. "I am also an Engineer! How fun to be meeting another engineer as well, I'm a maintenance engineer what about you?" He said with a big smile. "Oh, I see well this is my first blind date, I have dated before just people I've known though." He shrugged, he would have much better liked to know his date beforehand but he couldn't deny that there was some excitement in a blind one. "If I remember correctly I've done it like six times before, not my usual sport but it's alright. I'm fine with that I'll try to not be a sore loser." He chuckled. "Sure, why not." He said walking over to the first course and placed his ball down on the little area where it was supposed to be and hit it after aiming in on the first hole, he missed on his first try but on his second try he made it in. "Not bad, I guess, your turn."

"Aerospace engineer," Karavix answered, still practicing her swings while she waited for Mudion to take his turn. "In my free time, I tinker with smaller devices — I also excel in servicing various smaller hovercraft." She didn't need to put all her cards on the table quite yet. Or at all, for that matter. "Very well done." No big deal. Just hit the thing in the thing. Karavix lined up her shot, taking two strokes to hit it in as well— the first just barely missed, which was slightly frustrating. "I believe we follow the path to the next one," she pointed out, gesturing to the #2 hole, where they'd have to shoot under a coffee cup. Karavix inclined her head in gentle curiosity. "The map appears to be themed after date locations," she said, looking around at the rest of what they could see. "This one is a café." (edited)

"I see." Mudd said not entirely sure on what an Aerospace engineer did which made him stop and think for a few seconds in relative peace and calm and in his mind until it finally hit him. "Ah tinkering, love tinkering, I do some myself as well. I'm currently working on a little project of mine at the moment- mostly bettering something that already exist since it hasn't really been improved on since it was developed, it's a tad frustrating to be honest." He shrugged and chuckled a little bit noticing his own ramble, he would reveal what it was of course but probably if he only needed help. After all he had to keep himself a little mysterious. "Thank you." He nodded stepping away so Karavix got space for her to make an attempt as well, and succeed. "Yes, of course." The Trill said picking up his golf club in a firm grip and golf ball in the other hand, he looked at the courses as he heard that they appeared to be date themed. "Indeed, a satisfactory theme I suppose, I wouldn't have minded a more.. exotic one. Alright I guess it's my turn wish me luck." He smiled as he put down the ball after giving it a little polish with his shirt then made his first shot which got him close enough to the hole but not near enough, he made another attempt and shot the ball to hard it went the complete wrong way. Then after another attempt, his third he succeeded in getting it in the hole. "Not bad either, this is quite fun aye?"

"Exotic?" Karavix echoed, not quite understanding what he meant. "It is a day meant for romance, no? It fits the theme of this event very well, in my opinion." She let her club rest on her shoulder. "Our technology is always developing and changing. I cannot help but wonder what it is that you have uncovered." No design was perfect, there was always something that could be improved on in every bit of tech. She found fascination in the smaller things; drones, remote control devices, things like that. RIP Foghorn. You live on in her heart. She blinked. "It is a good way to spend time. I fail to recognize any potential exercise benefits beyond arm strength, but I can see why this activity would promote conversation, and therefore closeness." Karavix agreed, tossing her ball up and down and catching it in her hand. She took her place, adjusting her glasses. "It would be illogical to judge my current amusement based solely on the first two holes," she said, taking her first swing. It took four to make it into the hole, which she could live with. It was her first time, after all.

"Oh I guess so, yes it is, it does fit the theme for the day though one can't help the mind wandering to more exotic places, most of them are quite romantic as well, like I may be biased here but.. Risa." He said having quite a few shore leaves at that planet like a lot of him and his old crewmates had during their service. "It is, truly! A lot has changed over the span of 40 years, it took me quite sometime to catch up to. Well I can give you a hint, it is a small piece.. addition for the VISOR I am currently wearing." He said tapping the side of his visor with a cheeky smile. "I'd say it also demands a certain mental focus, and the ability to measure your strength into how far the ball will go when hitting it." Mudd added, he was by no means an expert on golfing as it was not a sport he regularly played. "I suppose that's true, only been two holes so far, let's make it a third then." He said walking over to the third hole put his ball down and swung his club, no hole in one on this one it took about seven frustrating tries for him to get it down the hole of the course that had a bridge and a tiny stream of water running. Though he still had every bit of confidence in his abilities. "Your turn, good luck hope it goes better for you than it did for me."

Karavix did not say anything— she didn't want to annoy Mudion by pestering him about his visor, after all. There were other things to be done. "I do not care for beaches, particularly." she answered. This was a Valentine's themed course, not a vacation one, after all. She watched him struggle with the third hole, but did not laugh or smile, instead just surveying what went wrong and where. "You should put less into your swing," she said. "You have a habit of rocketing it past the hole, which leaves you to move it all the way back." She took her stance, aiming with the club barely touching the ball before swinging, sending the ball tumbling over the bridge to the other side. "There is no "luck". It is environmental blockades, as well as your own strength and calculation. Approximating a path you wish for the ball to go and doing your best to execute it. The game is what you make of it, as is every other that has nothing to do with a random draw," she said, sending the ball into the hole with one perfect swing.

"Well I guess it's not for everyone.. sand tends to get everywhere but there are rocky beaches though one sharp rock and ouch." He said in response, he loved the beach especially one with sand since he liked the feeling of sand and how you could form it when wet. "Ah, your right I should probably do that, thanks for the input I appreciate it." He smiled. "I suppose that's true." He said as he both watched and listened. "Good job, certainly did better than me." He chuckled as he picked up his club to proceed on to the next hole that was made to look like a beach just what they had talked about, though unlike hitting a golf ball at the beach where it would just get stuck in the sand here it would not apparently and there were simple houses with a valentines theme on the side to mark how the course went which was zig zagged and then an L to where the hole was located. "What a coincidence, alright here we go." He placed the ball down and hit it though unfortunately the ball came rolling back towards him from one of the zig zag walls, so he made another shot that was more calculated and straight to get through the zig zagging area which was successfull, then when it reached the L he made a shot straight for the hole and succeeded on that two, in total making it three shots.

The rest of the date proceeded in a similar fashion; awkward conversation over the mini-golf course, with Karavix going on the occasional ramble about this that or the other. It was fine. No strong feelings either way, just.. fine. A day productively spent, in her eyes.
